What are the technical requirements for Traffic Paints - Road Marking Materials: Solventborne Paint in Vietnam?
In Section 2 of the National Standard TCVN 8787: 2011, the technical requirements for Traffic Paints - Road Marking Materials: Solventborne Paint in Vietnam are specified as follows:
Stability
After discharge, the paint is tested for the first time without films, lumps, gels, and coarse particles when observed with the naked eye. Within four weeks from the moment of manufacture, the sedimentation of the paint should not be less than 8.
Fineness
The better the paint is dispersed, the higher the efficiency of use. Normally, fineness for road marking paint is not specified, but for some construction equipment, to avoid clogging, it may be necessary to limit the fineness of the paint in the range of 75 mm to 90 mm (determined according to TCVN 2091: 2008)
Viscosity
The paint must have a viscosity in the range from 60 to 80 Kreb units (Appendix B).
Note 1: This requirement provides information on the properties of paints that can be applied by the spraying method as well as instructions for the production of paint batches when the paint is designed for construction by the spraying method.
Color
After drying, the paint film on the test plate is tested according to the method given in Appendix B, the paint color received must meet the following requirements (based on standard color space according to AS 2700S)
(a) White - equivalent to or whiter than Y35
(b) Yellow - equivalent to Y12 or Y14, or all intermediate colors between the above colors.
(c) Black - not lighter than B64.
Glow luminosity
The luminosity of the paint film should not be less than 75 % for white paint and not less than 55 % for yellow paint; or not less than 45 percent for field testing.
Ability to retain glass beads
When the paint is tested according to 5.3, the percentage of glass particles initially lost on the surface after testing with a scanner should not exceed 10% (m/m).
Drying time
Rated according to 5.4, both wheels had no paint smudge on the first test, i.e. did not exceed 15 min from the time of application of the paint.
Gloss
The paint film on the test plate after drying according to 5.1, measures the gloss according to TCVN 2101: 2008 using a 60º measuring head, the paint gloss must not exceed 20 gloss units.
Bending
The paint is swept onto the metal backplate with a dry paint film thickness of 50 mm ± 5 mm. By using a type 1 bending measuring instrument, with an axis with a diameter of 12 mm, the paint film does not show signs of peeling or breakage.
Adhesion
The adhesion of white and yellow paints determined by the proportion of intact cells that do not peel should not be less than 90 percent and 80 percent, respectively.
Spillage resistance
Judging by 5.5, the luminosity of the paint applied on the bitumen face should not be reduced by more than 3 units compared to the measured value when applying the paint on the clear adhesive tape surface.
Impact resistance
Judging by 5.6, the metal substrate surface is not exposed under the influence of 2.25 kg of steel chips.
Oil resistance
Test as described in 5.7. After 3 h of recovery, the paint film did not show signs of blistering, and the luminous value did not decrease by more than 3 units compared to the percentage value measured at 5.5.
Salt resistance
Test as described in 6.8. After 3 h of recovery, the paint film did not show signs of blistering, and the luminous value did not decrease by more than 3 units compared to the percentage value measured at 4.3.5.
Water resistance
Test as described in 5.9. After 3 h of recovery, the paint film did not show signs of blistering, and the luminous value did not decrease by more than 3 units compared to the percentage value measured at 4.3.5.
Alkali resistance
Test as described in 5.10. After 3 h of paint film restoration, no signs of blistering appeared, the luminous value did not decrease by more than 3 units compared to the percentage value measured at 4.3.5.
Atmospheric strength
The paint is swept onto a chromium aluminum sheet, then tested for 500 h artificial atmosphere run according to BS 3900 or TCVN 8792: 2011, the paint film does not show signs of blistering, fracture or cracking, the luminous value does not decrease by more than 3 units compared to the percentage value measured at 4.3.5.
Abrasion
The volume of loss due to wear after 100 rounds of grinding does not exceed 500 mg according to 5.11
Field test norms
+ Overview - The test road lines are constructed according to the instructions at 5.14, on a small road for 1,500,000 vehicles to pass continuously for a period from 3 months to 9 months.
+ Abrasion - evaluated according to guidelines at 5.14 after passing 1,500,000 vehicles through the test road line, the wear index should not exceed 35 and the image equivalent to the remaining road marking area ≥ 90%.
+ Reflectivity - tested according to the instructions at 5.12 reflectivity of the test paint film containing glass beads after passing 200,000 vehicles must not be less than 50% of the measured reflectivity at the time after applying 1 h.
+ Luminosity - Tested according to the instructions at 5.2, the luminosity of the painted line does not contain particles after allowing 3,000,000 vehicles to pass on the asphalt surface or for 1,000,000 vehicles passing on the asphalt road surface must not be less than 45%.
Post-warehousing conditions
Usually, the paint is not used immediately after production but is kept stable in the container after a certain period of time, for road marking paint this period should not exceed 6 months. Cured liquid paint in sealed barrels at 25 oC ± 2 oC within 6 months after being warehoused from the date of manufacture, liquid paint products must satisfy the following conditions
(a) The viscosity of the paint shall not vary by more than 5 Kreb units ± the viscosity measured at the time of manufacture.
(b) Paint with a degree of sedimentation greater than 4.
(c) Capable of remixing.
What are the instructions for taking samples of Traffic Paints - Road Marking Materials: Solventborne Paint in Vietnam?
In Appendix A promulgated together with National Standard TCVN 8787: 2011, the instructions for taking samples of Traffic Paints - Road Marking Materials: Solventborne Paint in Vietnam are as follows:
- Be careful when taking samples not to allow samples to be contaminated or mixed with solvents.
- Due to the high volatility of solvent paints, the container must be completely airtight and tightly closed immediately after sampling.
- The sample container must not be immersed in a solvent or wiped with a solvent-soaked cloth. Dirty wire paint spilled out of the barrel should be wiped with a clean and dry cloth immediately after covering the barrel.
- Extreme caution must be taken to avoid bumping the barrel when transporting paint.
- When collecting samples and covering the container, gloves, protective wear, and eye protection must be used.
- Keep away from sources of ignition and sparks.
- Take the sample gently without splashing or spilling paint.
- The sample container must be placed on a firm flat surface to prevent splashing or spilling of paint while the lid is closed.
