You may be wondering, "How did I get this letter? Who wrote it?" To answer that question, it was me, a 7th grader living in the 2023-2024 school year. The reason I am writing this letter is to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Universal Postal Union (1874-2024) and to participate in the UPU International Letter-Writing Contest, with a fascinating theme I cannot ignore.

In the process of writing the letter, I wondered: who will read and feel these words? But then I realized that, even though we are in different generations, my hope for a good world without borders and inheritance has not changed.

For me, imagining an ideal future world is not far away. It is a world that previous generations, from grandparents and parents to us and our children and grandchildren, have been developing and preserving together.

Let me tell you the "story" of how the whole world joined forces to create an ideal planet for life. This story began in 1972, in Stockholm, Sweden, with the United Nations Conference on the Environment and People. This was the first UN event to focus on international environmental issues.

After numerous high-level and summits, since September 2013, countries have begun to formulate the post-2015 United Nations Development Agenda, with 17 sustainable development goals.

The 2030 Agenda, with 17 sustainability goals, was accepted on 25 September 2015 at the United Nations Summit attended by 193 member states. The agenda covers broad policy, to complete unfinished work from the Millennium Development Goals and Agenda 21, leaving no one behind.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals, defined by 169 specific goals and 232 indicators, work towards ending poverty, reducing poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring everyone enjoys peace and prosperity by 2030. Although it is 2024, I am aware that achieving this goal is not easy, but we will never give up and will continue to work towards the ultimate goal.

As you read these words, your world may have become a reality for twenty-first-century people like us: where all forms of poverty have ended, hunger ceases to exist, and sustainable agriculture is flourishing. That world ensures healthy living and provides equitable, quality educational opportunities for all. You live in a gender-equal world, with power and opportunities for women and girls.

In that world, water and sanitation resources are guaranteed for all, and everyone has access to sustainable energy. The economy is growing strongly, creating jobs and productivity. Infrastructure is firmly built, promoting sustainable industrialization and innovation.

In that world, social inequality is reduced, urban and rural development is sustainable and safe, with the right distribution of population and labor. People adapt flexibly to climate change and natural disasters, and production and consumption are sustainable. Marine and forest resources are conserved and used sustainably, and biodiversity is focused and conserved.

We also aspire to create a peaceful, democratic, just, equal and civilized society that supports sustainable development. We place our hopes on people being able to access justice, develop effective systems, and actively participate at every level. More importantly, we look forward to fostering global partnerships to achieve sustainable development.

That is, when you receive this letter, you are living in a world that we in the twenty-first century have dreamed of: a world free of poverty, with guaranteed food security systems, improved nutrition and sustainable development in agriculture. That world ensures healthy lives and advances well-being for people of all ages, with quality, equitable, inclusive education systems and creating lifelong learning opportunities for all.

It is a place where gender equality is realized, power is increased and opportunities open up for women and girls. Where water resources and sanitation systems are sustainably managed, and everyone has access to sustainable and reliable energy. The economy is sustainable and inclusive, with everyone fully employed and productive. The infrastructure is built to be highly resilient, encouraging sustainable industrialization and enhancing innovation.

In that world, social inequality is reduced, urban and rural development is sustainable, safe and ensures the living and working environment. Production and consumption are managed sustainably, and countries flexibly respond to climate change and natural disasters. There we conserve and sustainably use oceans, seas and forests, preserve biodiversity... We also aspire to promote a peaceful, democratic, just, equitable and civilized society that supports sustainable development, creates access to justice for all, and formulates effective, accountable and participatory institutions at all levels; Strengthen implementation practices and promote global partnerships for sustainable development.
