What is the document retention period in Vietnam?
Recently, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued Circular 10/2022/TT-BNV prescribing document retention periods in the following agencies and organizations:
+ State authorities
+ Political organizations,
+ Socio-political organizations
+ Political-social-professional organizations
+ Social organizations
+ Socio-professional organizations
+ Economic organizations
+ Administrative units
+ People's Armed Forces and Units.
Accordingly, the document retention period means the length of time running from the completion year of a task for which relevant documents and Dossiers need to be retained.
What are the adjusted retention periods of general documents during the operation of agencies or organizations in Vietnam?
According to the provisions of Section 1 of Appendix I promulgated together with Circular 10/2022/TT-BNV, the adjusted retention period of general documents during the operation of agencies or organizations in Vietnam is prescribed as follows:
- For documents sent to know, the document retention period formed in the operation of agencies and organizations is 01 year
- For dossiers of formulation and promulgation of regulations and guidance on general issues of agencies and organizations, the document retention period formed in the operation of agencies and organizations is 20 years.
- For dossiers of the conference summarizing and preliminary work; thematic; In the briefing, the document retention period formed in the operation of agencies and organizations is divided into 03 timelines as follows:
+ Conference dossiers summarizing and preliminary work; thematic; The annual briefing is preserved as permanent
+ Conference dossiers summarizing and preliminary work; thematic; quarterly, 6-month, 9-month briefings preserved for 10 years
+ Conference dossiers summarizing and preliminary work; thematic; Briefings by day, week, and month are 05 years.
- Minutes of briefings and working manuals of leaders of agencies and organizations with a document preservation period from 05 years to 10 years.

What are the retention periods of documents on cadres, civil servants, public employees, and employees in Vietnam?
According to the provisions of Section 3.2 of Appendix, I promulgated together with Circular 10/2022/TT-BNV, the retention periods of documents on cadres, civil servants, public employees, and employees in Vietnam are prescribed as follows:
- Dossiers on the planning of cadres, civil servants, and public employees
+ Vote for confidence in the planning: 05 years.
+ Other document components: 10 years.
- Dossiers on appointment and reappointment of cadres, civil servants, and public employees
+ Vote of confidence in appointment and reappointment: 10 years
+ Other document components: 20 years
- Dossiers of reception, assignment, transfer, rotation, transfer of job positions, secondment and discipline of cadres, civil servants, public employees and employees: 20 years
- Dossiers of dismissal or transfer of cadres, civil servants, public employees, and employees: 20 years
- Dossiers of rank promotion and transfer of cadres, civil servants, and public employees: 20 years
- Original records of cadres, civil servants, public employees, and employees: 70 years
- Dossiers of sending cadres, civil servants, and public employees to work abroad: 10 years

What are the retention periods of documents on labor and wages in Vietnam?
According to the provisions of Section 4 of Appendix I promulgated together with Circular 10/2022/TT-BNV, the retention periods of documents on documents on labor and wages in Vietnam are:
Labor documents:
- Dossiers of development of occupational protection, safety, and health regime of the agency: 20 years
- Dossiers of occupational accidents:
+ Serious occupational accidents: Permanent
+ Non-serious occupational accidents: 20 years.
Documents on wages:
- Dossiers of formulation and promulgation of the Regulation on salary upgrade: 20 years
- Tracking records of implementation of ladder, payroll, and allowances: 20 years
- Dossiers of salary classification, reassignment of salary coefficient, pay rise, and seniority allowance of cadres, civil servants, and public employees: 20 years
- Dispatch on salary: 05 years
What are the retention periods of construction investment documents in Vietnam?
According to Section 6 of Appendix I promulgated together with Circular 10/2022/TT-BNV, the retention periods of construction investment documents in Vietnam are:
- Dossiers of formulation and promulgation of regulations and guidelines on investment and construction: 20 years
- Dossiers on the formulation of schemes, projects, and target programs:
+ Approved dossiers: Permanent
+ Dossiers not approved: 10 years.
- Dossiers of management and organization of implementation of target schemes, projects, programs, and dossiers of appraisal and approval of target schemes, projects, and programs: Permanent.
- Bidding documents, tenders, and winning bidder's dossiers; dossiers of insurance, warranty, and maintenance of works; international quality registration dossiers (if any); dossiers on supervision and assessment of construction investment projects (if any): 20 years
- Bidding documents, tenders, and winning bids: 10 years
