(1) Letters
Letters conform to the regulations on typefaces mentioned in Appendix K of this Regulation, special cases may be adjusted to be balanced, appropriate, and meet clear information, in which:
- Use standard typefaces "gt1 - Compressed typeface" and "gt2 - Lowercase" to write information in sea letters.
- Use uppercase or compressed letters used to write directional information, proper nouns, or information that emphasizes and draws attention to road users. Compressed typefaces should only be used in cases where the size of the sign must be restricted.
- Use lowercase to write place names in English, service information, and on additional panels.
- On the same line of letters use only one type of lettering.
- The letters must be Vietnamese with enough accents. The distance between letters is from 25% - 40% of the letter height, and the distance between any letters on the same row of letters is from 75% - 100% of the letter height. The vertical spacing between rows of letters is at least 50% - 75% of the maximum letter height of the back row.
The distance between the top and bottom rows of letters and the edge of the sign is at least 40% of the height of the highest letters in the row. The horizontal distance of the letters in the top and bottom corners to the edge of the sign is at least 60% of the letter height with capital letters and 100% with lowercase letters.
- The distance between the unit of measurement (t, m, km) and the front digit is equal to 50% of the height of the unit of measurement inscription.
- The letter height is selected based on the speed of the vehicle so that road users can read clearly both during the day and at night. The minimum letter height on direction signs is 100 mm for ordinary and urban roads; 150 mm for non-urban double tracks and 300 mm for highways. The writing indicating place names and road directions has a minimum height of 150 mm; encourage the use of large letter sizes but ensure proportionality and aesthetics for signs.

- Use only the color of letters as follows: white on a black, blue, or red background; black on white or yellow backgrounds or yellow on blue backgrounds.

(2) Colors
Colors must comply with technical regulations on color and uniformity in marine groups used on the road network.
(3) Symbols and drawings on the sign
Symbols and drawings are specified in detail for each sign.
Particularly, the drawing representing the types of vehicles is shown according to the principle: denoting automobiles in general, buses use the opposite projection symbol, for each type of vehicle, the symbol is the edge projection.
Based on the practice of traffic organization, from the signs already in the Regulation, when you want to apply to other objects, you only need to replace the old object (vehicle symbol) with the new object (vehicle symbol). For taxis, use the automobile symbol with the word "TAXI" added above; for express buses, use the bus symbol with the word "BRT" added above; for vehicles fitted with ETC automatic toll collection devices, use the symbol of that vehicle with the symbol "ETC" added above. For vehicles that do not have a specified symbol, they can be written in words.
When it is necessary to denote the tonnage or number of seats for trucks and passenger automobiles, add the writing of the number of tons and the number of seats (for example, a truck > 3.5 tons, write the letter > 3.5t on the drawing of a truck, a passenger automobile under 16 seats, write the letter < 16c on the drawing of a passenger automobile).
