What are the 17 fully paid days off during public holidays in 2024 applicable to employees in Vietnam?
Under the provisions of Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019, normally, during the year, employees shall entitled to fully paid public holidays and Tet holidays, including Gregorian Calendar New Year Holiday, Lunar New Year Holidays, Victory Day, International Labor Day (01-5), National Day (02-9) and Hung Kings Commemoration Day (10/3 in Lunar Calendar).
The 17 fully paid days off during public holidays in 2024 applicable to employees in Vietnam are specified as follows:

Note: According to Article 111 of the Labor Code 2019, if public holidays coincide with weekly breaks, employees are entitled to compensatory leave on the next working day.

Under the provisions of Clause 1, Article 113 of the Labor Code 2019, there are regulations on the annual leave of employees in Vietnam as follows:
Annual leave
1. Any employee who has been working for an employer for 12 months is entitled to fully-paid annual leave, which is stipulated in his/her employment contract as follows:
a) 12 working days for employees who work in normal working conditions;
b) 14 working days for employees that are minors, the disabled, employees who do laborious, toxic or dangerous works;
c) 16 working days for employees who do highly laborious, toxic or dangerous works.

As a rule, any employee who has been working for an employer for 12 months is entitled to fully paid annual leave of 12-16 days of annual leave depending on the job and the time of fully paid leave. At the same time, under Article 114 of the Labor Code 2019, these employees shall also entitled to take seniority-based days off (an additional 01 day off for every 05 years of employment with the same employer).
Thus, in case an employee has not taken annual leave, the employee can apply for leave corresponding to the number of fully paid days off (before or after the holiday) to last her/his holiday.
In addition, employees can apply for unpaid leave as prescribed in Clause 3, Article 115 of the Labor Code 2019 to last their holidays (in this case, approval from the employer is required and employees shall take leave with full payment).
What are the regulations on personal leave and unpaid leave for employees in Vietnam according to the 2019 Labor Code?
Under the provisions of Article 115 of the 2019 Labor Code as follows:
Personal leave, unpaid leave
1. An employee is entitled to take a fully paid personal leave in the following circumstances, as long as it is notified to the employer in advance:
a) Marriage: 03 days;
b) Marriage of his/her biological child or adopted child: 01 day;
c) Death of his/her biological or adoptive parent; death of his/her spouse’s biological or adoptive parent; death of spouse, biological or adopted child: 03 days.
2. An employee is entitled to take 01 day of unpaid leave and must inform the employer in the case of the death of his/her grandparent or biological sibling; marriage of his/her parent or natural sibling.
3. The employee may negotiate with his/her employer on taking unpaid leave other than the leave stipulated in Clause 1 and Clause 2 of this Article.
Thus, personal leave and unpaid leave for employees in Vietnam shall follow the provisions above.
