Based on Article 2 Circular 47/2018/TT-BYT, the types of certificates, diplomas, and licenses related to traditional medicine include:
- Certificates of being a traditional medicine practitioner issued by the Ministry of Health or the Department of Health.- Certificates of being a traditional pharmacist issued by the Ministry of Health or the Department of Health.- Certificates indicating proficiency in traditional pharmacology issued by the Department of Health before the effective date of Circular 13/1999/TT-BYT dated July 6, 1999, which implements the ordinance on private medical and pharmaceutical practices related to traditional medicine.- Certificates of eligibility for practicing traditional pharmacology issued by the Department of Health from July 21, 1999, to before January 21, 2004.- Certificates and diplomas related to traditional medicine issued by training institutions before the effective date of the Law on Pharmacy 2016 and already granted a traditional pharmaceutical practice license by the Department of Health according to Circular 02/2007/TT-BYT dated January 24, 2007, detailing the conditions for drug trading in accordance with the Law on Pharmacy 2016 and Decree 79/2006/ND-CP dated August 9, 2006, detailing the implementation of several provisions of the Law on Pharmacy 2016.

Scope of Pharmaceutical Practice for Those Holding Certificates and Licenses in Traditional Medicine
Based on Article 5 Circular 47/2018/TT-BYT, the scope of pharmaceutical practice for those holding certificates and licenses in traditional medicine is as follows:
- Individuals holding a certificate of a traditional medicine practitioner, as specified in Clause 1, Article 2 of Circular 47/2018/TT-BYT, are responsible for the professional pharmaceutical activities at wholesale and retail establishments of medicinal herbs and traditional medicines, and also for ensuring quality control at household businesses or cooperative production units of medicinal herbs.- Individuals holding a certificate of a traditional pharmacist, as specified in Clause 2, Article 2 of Circular 47/2018/TT-BYT, are responsible for the professional pharmaceutical activities at wholesale and retail establishments of medicinal herbs and traditional medicine ingredients.- Holders of other certificates and licenses in traditional medicine specified in Clauses 3, 4, and 5 of Article 2 Circular 47/2018/TT-BYT are responsible for the professional traditional pharmaceutical activities at wholesale and retail establishments within the scope granted by the Department of Health.
Practical Training Duration for Those Holding a Certificate of Traditional Medicine Practitioner
Based on Clause 2, Article 3 of Circular 47/2018/TT-BYT, the regulations are as follows:
Practical Training Organization
1. Practice Requirements
a) Individuals with a certificate of a traditional medicine practitioner must complete practical training before being issued a professional practicing certificate as stipulated in Clauses 2 and 3 of this Article;
b) Individuals with certificates specified in Clauses 2, 3, 4, and 5 of Article 2 of this Circular, who have been granted a pharmaceutical practice license by the Department of Health, are not required to complete practical training when applying for a pharmaceutical practicing certificate.
2. Practical training duration for individuals with a certificate of a traditional medicine practitioner is as follows:
a) The practical training duration for individuals responsible for the professional pharmaceutical activities at wholesale and retail establishments of traditional medicines is 1 year;
b) The practical training duration for individuals responsible for the professional pharmaceutical activities at wholesale and retail establishments of medicinal herbs is 6 months;
c) The practical training duration for individuals responsible for the professional pharmaceutical activities or quality assurance at household businesses or cooperative production units of medicinal herbs is 1 year.
3. Practical training content and locations for individuals with a certificate of a traditional medicine practitioner:
a) Individuals responsible for the professional pharmaceutical activities at wholesale establishments of medicinal herbs and traditional medicines, and those responsible for professional pharmaceutical activities or quality assurance at household businesses or cooperative production units of medicinal herbs must undergo practical training as stipulated in Articles 19 and 20 of Decree 54/2017/ND-CP dated May 8, 2017, of the Government of Vietnam, detailing certain provisions and implementation measures of the Law on Pharmacy;
b) Individuals responsible for the professional pharmaceutical activities at retail establishments of medicinal herbs and traditional medicines must undergo practical training related to traditional medicine at the pharmaceutical department of a traditional medicine clinic or a pharmaceutical business establishment.
Therefore, according to the above regulations, the practical training duration for individuals holding a certificate of a traditional medicine practitioner is as follows:
- The practical training duration for individuals responsible for the professional pharmaceutical activities at wholesale and retail establishments of traditional medicines is 1 year.- The practical training duration for individuals responsible for the professional pharmaceutical activities at wholesale and retail establishments of medicinal herbs is 6 months.- The practical training duration for individuals responsible for the professional pharmaceutical activities or quality assurance at household businesses or cooperative production units of medicinal herbs is 1 year.
