The salary coefficient for a Major of the People's Army is 6.00.
The current statutory pay rate is 1,800,000 VND/month (as regulated in Clause 2, Article 3 of Decree 24/2023/ND-CP).

According to Resolution 104/2023/QH15, a comprehensive salary policy reform will be implemented in accordance with Resolution 27-NQ/TW of 2018 starting from July 1, 2024.
Based on Point c, Clause 3.1 of Section II in Resolution 27-NQ/TW of 2018 on specific factors for designing the new salary schedule for officials and armed forces as follows:

c) Identify specific factors to design the new salary schedule
- Abolish the current statutory pay rate and salary coefficient, establish the basic salary as a specific amount in the new salary schedule.
- Implement unified policies for labor contracts according to the provisions of the Labor Code (or service provision contracts) for personnel in execution and service roles (requiring training below intermediate level), without applying the officials and public employees' salary schedule to these subjects.
- Determine the lowest salary for officials and public employees in the public sector as the salary for a job requiring intermediate level training (level 1), not lower than the minimum wage for trained workers in the enterprise sector.
- Expand the salary relations basis to determine specific salary levels in the salary system, gradually approaching the salary relations in the enterprise sector compatible with the State's resources.
- Improve policies for regular wage increases and pre-term wage increases for officials, public employees, and armed forces in compliance with the new salary schedule regulations.
Thus, the construction of the new salary schedule for a Major in the Army will be based on the following main factors:
- Abolishing the current statutory pay rate and salary coefficient, establishing a basic salary as a specific amount in the new salary schedule.- Expanding the salary relations basis to determine specific salary levels in the new salary system, gradually approaching the enterprise sector salary relations compatible with State resources.- Improving policies for regular wage increases and pre-term wage increases for officials, public employees, and armed forces in compliance with the new salary schedule.
How will the new 2024 salary structure for an Army Major be after salary reform?
Based on Subsection 3, Section II of Resolution 27-NQ/TW of 2018, it outlines reform contents for officials, public employees, and armed forces (public sector).
Content of the reform
3.1. For officials and public employees, and armed forces (public sector)
a) Design the new salary structure including: Basic salary (accounting for about 70% of the total salary fund) and allowances (accounting for about 30% of the total salary fund). Supplementing bonuses (the bonus fund accounts for about 10% of the annual total salary fund, excluding allowances).
The new salary structure for the army upon implementing the salary reform will include:
- Basic salary (accounting for about 70% of the total salary fund);- Allowances (accounting for about 30% of the total salary fund);- Bonuses (the bonus fund accounting for about 10% of the annual total salary fund, excluding allowances).
It is evident that the new salary structure for the army and police includes these components. Furthermore, design and issue a new salary schedule system based on job position, title, and leadership position to replace the current salary schedule system; transitioning from old to new salaries, ensuring that the new salary is not lower than the current salary.
Thus, after the salary reform expected from July 1, 2024, the salary of an Army Major will be constructed as follows:
