Ensuring full payment of salaries and bonuses for Tet Holiday 2024 for officials and public employees, and employees as requested by the Prime Minister of Vietnam
On December 15, 2023, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam issued Directive 30/CT-TTg of 2023 on enhancing measures to ensure a joyful, healthy, safe, and economical Tet Holiday 2024.
At Point b, Section 4 of Directive 30/CT-TTg of 2023, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam requested the Ministry of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs to preside and cooperate with relevant ministries, central authorities, and local authorities to ensure full payment of salaries and bonuses for Tet Holiday 2024 for officials and public employees, and employees as follows:
The Ministry of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs to preside and cooperate with relevant ministries, central authorities, and local authorities:
Monitor and grasp the labor situation in industrial zones, export processing zones, economic zones, especially areas with a high concentration of employees, facilitating employees' return to work after Tet; give special support to employees with significantly reduced income, job loss, or shortage due to natural disasters, epidemics, and enterprise downsizing. Implement solutions to maintain the workforce supply chain, promptly meet labor needs before and after Tet Holiday. Strengthen inspection and ensure labor safety and hygiene, ensuring that officials and public employees, and employees receive full payment of salaries and bonuses and are arranged for Tet breaks according to policies. Fully implement policies on social insurance, unemployment insurance benefits; proactively develop solutions to prevent and handle labor disputes that may occur during the Tet Holiday. Support and create conditions to ensure that Vietnamese employees abroad can celebrate Tet Holiday according to traditional customs and current conditions.
The Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam requested the Ministry of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs to preside and cooperate with relevant ministries, central authorities, and local authorities to strengthen inspection and implementation of measures to ensure labor safety and hygiene, ensuring that officials and public employees, and employees receive full payment of salaries and bonuses and are arranged for Tet breaks according to policies.

What is the Tet Holiday 2024 Schedule?
Gregorian New Year (Gregorian Calendar) 2024 Schedule:
- officials and public employees:
According to the regulations for officials and public employees and Point a, Clause 1, Article 112 of the Labor Law 2019, officials and public employees are entitled to a paid holiday on Gregorian New Year: 1 day (January 1 of the Gregorian calendar). In 2024, Gregorian New Year falls on Monday, January 1, 2024, and officials and public employees will be off work and receive full pay on this day.
However, December 30 and December 31, 2023, fall on Saturday and Sunday. Thus, the Gregorian New Year 2024 holiday schedule for officials and public employees will be extended continuously for 3 days from Saturday, December 30, 2023, to the end of Monday, January 1, 2024 (in case of weekly rest on Saturday and Sunday).
- Employees:
According to the provisions in Article 111 and Article 112 of the Labor Law 2019, the Gregorian New Year 2024 holiday schedule is as follows:

Note: In case of weekly rest on another day, the Gregorian New Year 2024 holiday is on Monday, January 1, 2024. If the weekly rest day coincides with the Gregorian New Year holiday, it is substituted with the next working day.
Tet Holiday (Lunar Calendar) 2024 Schedule:
- For officials and public employees:
On November 22, 2023, the Ministry of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs announced the Tet Holiday and National Day holiday schedule for 2024 for officials and public employees and employees.
According to Announcement 5015/TB-LDTBXH of 2023 from the Ministry of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA), officials and public employees, and employees will be off for Tet Holiday 2024 from Thursday, February 8, 2024, according to the Gregorian calendar (the 29th day of the last lunar month of the Year of the Cat) to the end of Wednesday, February 14, 2024, according to the Gregorian calendar (the 5th day of the first lunar month of the Year of the Dragon).
(The Tet Holiday includes 5 days of the Lunar New Year holiday and 2 days of weekly rest substitution according to Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labor Law 2019).
- For employees:
According to Article 112 of the Labor Law 2019, employees are entitled to a paid holiday for 5 days during the Lunar New Year.
Additionally, Section 5 of Announcement 5015/TB-LDTBXH of 2023 specifies the Tet Holiday 2024 options for employees as follows:
- For the Lunar New Year holiday: select either 1 day at the end of the Year of the Cat and 4 days at the start of the Year of the Dragon or 2 days at the end of the Year of the Cat and 3 days at the start of the Year of the Dragon or 3 days at the end of the Year of the Cat and 2 days at the start of the Year of the Dragon.
- Notify the Tet Holiday 2024 plan to employees at least 30 days prior to implementation.
- If the weekly rest day coincides with the holidays prescribed in Clause 1, Article 112 of the Labor Law 2019, employees are entitled to substitute for the next working day according to Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labor Law 2019.
- Employers are encouraged to apply the same Tet Holiday schedule as officials and public employees for their employees.
Prohibition of giving and receiving Tet Gifts among leaders of all levels during the 2024 Tet Holiday in Vietnam
Based on Section 3 of Directive 26-CT/TW of 2023, the Secretariat directs the organization of Tet Holiday 2024 as follows:
3. Do not organize Tet visits and greetings to higher levels or leaders; do not form Central delegations to visit local Party Committees and authorities; strictly prohibit giving and receiving Tet gifts among leaders of all levels under any form; leaders of all levels may only attend temple and festival ceremonies when assigned; do not participate in superstitious activities; do not use state budget, public property, or vehicles contrary to the regulations for festive, recreational activities... Strictly adhere to regulations on the responsibility to set an example for party members and prohibited actions for party members.
The Secretariat strictly prohibits giving and receiving Tet gifts among leaders of all levels under any form during the Tet Holiday 2024.
