What is the ID card for children under 6 years old in Vietnam like?

Based on Article 3 Circular 16/2024/TT-BCA, the regulations on the ID card for children under 6 years old are as follows:

- Both sides of the ID card are printed with a blue pattern that transitions from yellow to green in the middle. The front side background features Vietnam's administrative map, a bronze drum, and traditional decorative patterns. The back side background includes patterns combined with lotus flower images and interwoven curved lines.

- The National Emblem of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and the face photo of the person issued the ID card (for the ID card issued to Vietnamese citizens aged 6 years and older) are printed directly in color on the ID card. The National Emblem of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam has a diameter of 12mm; the face photo of the person issued the ID card has the dimensions of 20mm x 30mm; the position for printing the QR code has the dimensions of 18mm x 18mm.

- The color of the information on the ID card:

Based on Article 5 Circular 16/2024/TT-BCA, the regulations on the shape, size, and material of the ID card are as follows:

- The ID card is rectangular, 53.98mm wide, 85.6mm long, 0.76mm thick, and the four corners are rounded with a radius of 3.18mm.

- The ID card is made out of plastic material.

Based on Article 27 Identification Law 2023, the place for processing the issuance of ID cards is regulated as follows:

- The identification management office of the district, district-level town, city under the province, city under the centrally-managed city police where the citizen resides.

- The identification management office of the Ministry of Public Security for cases decided by the head of the identification management office of the Ministry of Public Security.

- In case of necessity, the identification management office prescribed in clause 1 and clause 2 of Article 27 Identification Law 2023 organizes the processing of ID cards at communes, wards, commune-level towns, agencies, units, or at the residence of citizens.

The issuance timeline for ID cards is within 7 working days from the date of receipt of the complete dossier. The identification management office must issue the ID card (Article 26 Identification Law 2023).

What are cases of reissuance of ID cards in Vietnam?

Based on clause 2 of Article 24 Identification Law 2023, it is regulated as follows:

Cases for reissuance, renewal of ID cards

1. The cases for renewing the ID cards include:

a) Cases specified in clause 1 of Article 21 of this Law;

b) Change or correction of information on surnames, middle names, birth names; date of birth;

c) Change of identity; addition of facial image information, fingerprints; reassessment or change of gender according to the law;

d) There are errors in the printed information on the ID card;

e) At the request of the person issued the ID card when the information on the card changes due to the rearrangement of administrative units;

f) Reassignment of the personal identification number;

g) When the person issued the ID card requests.

2. Cases for reissuing the ID cards include:

a) Lost ID card or the ID card is damaged and unusable, except for the case specified in Article 21 of this Law;

b) Regained Vietnamese nationality according to the law on Vietnamese nationality.

The cases for reissuing the ID card include:

* Lost ID card or the ID card is damaged and unusable, except for:

(1) Vietnamese citizens who have been issued an ID card must follow the procedure for renewing the ID card when reaching the ages of 14, 25, 40, and 60.

(2) ID cards that have been issued, renewed, or reissued within 2 years before the age defined for renewing the ID card in clause 1 of Article 21 Identification Law 2023 are valid until the next age for renewing the ID card.
