How much money does a police officer get upon discharge?
According to the provisions of Article 7 Decree 27/2016/ND-CP regulating one-time discharge allowances, job creation allowances, travel money, and per diem for non-commissioned officers and soldiers upon discharge, the policies are as follows:
One-time discharge allowance, job creation allowance, travel money, and per diem for non-commissioned officers and soldiers upon discharge
1. In addition to one-time social insurance benefits according to regulations of the law on social insurance, non-commissioned officers and soldiers upon discharge are entitled to a one-time discharge allowance. Each year of service in the Army is entitled to 2 months of statutory pay rate according to the Government of Vietnam's regulations at the time of discharge. For fractional months, the calculation is as follows: Less than 1 month is not entitled to a discharge allowance; from 1 month to 6 months is entitled to an allowance equal to 1 month of statutory pay rate; over 6 months to 12 months is entitled to an allowance of 2 months of statutory pay rate.
2. Non-commissioned officers and soldiers serving for a period of 30 months at the time of discharge are entitled to an additional 2 months' rank allowance. If discharged before 30 months, the service time from the 25th to under 30th month is entitled to an additional 1-month rank allowance.
3. Non-commissioned officers and soldiers who complete their service obligation according to the Law on Military Service are entitled to a job creation allowance equal to 6 months of statutory pay rate according to the Government of Vietnam's regulations at the time of discharge.
4. Non-commissioned officers and soldiers at the time of discharge are given a farewell meeting by their direct management unit before discharge, with an expenditure rate of 50,000 VND/person; they are sent and taken back to their place of residence according to regulations or given money for ordinary train, car travel, and per diem from the unit to their place of residence.
According to these regulations, upon discharge, a police officer is entitled to the following allowances:
* One-time discharge allowance
- Each year of service is entitled to 2 months of statutory pay rate according to the Government of Vietnam's regulations at the time of discharge.
The current statutory pay rate is 1,800,000 VND. Currently, the usual term of service for a police officer is 2 years.
Therefore, at the time of discharge, the allowance received is: 7,200,000 VND (for a 2-year service police officer).
- For fractional months, the calculation is as follows:
+ Less than 1 month is not entitled to a discharge allowance.
+ From 1 month to 6 months is entitled to an allowance equal to 1 month of statutory pay rate.
+ Over 6 months to 12 months is entitled to an allowance of 2 months of statutory pay rate.
* 2 months of current rank allowance
Police officers serving for a period of 30 months at the time of discharge are entitled to an additional 2 months' current rank allowance.
If discharged before 30 months, the service period from the 25th month to under 30 months is entitled to an additional 1-month current rank allowance.
* Job creation allowance
Police officers who complete their service obligation according to regulations are entitled to a job creation allowance equal to 6 months of statutory pay rate according to the Government of Vietnam's regulations at the time of discharge.
1,800,000*6=10,800,000 VND.
* Ordinary train, car money and per diem from the unit to the place of residence
Police officers at the time of discharge are given a farewell meeting by their direct management unit before discharge, with an expenditure rate of 50,000 VND/person.

How long is the service period for citizens joining the People's Police in 2024?
Article 8 of the 2018 Law on People's Police stipulates the obligation to participate in the People's Police as follows:
Obligation to participate in the People's Police
1. Citizens fulfilling their obligation to participate in the People's Police are performing their duty to protect the Fatherland in the people's armed forces. Annually, the People's Police recruits citizens within the age range for conscription to serve in the People's Police for a period of 24 months. The Minister of Public Security decides to extend the service period of non-commissioned officers and duty soldiers by no more than 6 months in the following cases:
a) To ensure readiness for combat;
b) While performing disaster prevention, epidemic control, rescue, and relief missions.
2. The recruitment process for citizens to fulfill their obligation to participate in the People's Police is applied as same as the process for recruiting citizens to fulfill their military service.
3. The Government of Vietnam prescribes detailed regulations for clause 2 of this Article.
Thus, according to the above regulation, the People's Police recruits citizens within the age range for conscription to serve in the People's Police for a period of 24 months.
However, in certain cases mentioned in the regulation, the Minister of Public Security can extend the service period of non-commissioned officers and duty soldiers by no more than 6 months.
When is the 2024 health check for police duty?
Article 40 of the 2015 Law on Military Service regulates the health examination for citizens conscripted and fulfilling their obligation to participate in the People's Police as follows:

1. The Chairman of the District People's Committee decides to establish the Health Examination Council at the proposal of the district health office.
2. The Chief Military Commander of the District Military Command orders the health examination for citizens subject to conscription; the Chief of the District Police orders the health examination for citizens subject to fulfilling their obligation to participate in the People's Police. The health examination order must be delivered to citizens 15 days before the health examination.
3. The district Health Examination Council organizes the health examination for citizens subject to conscription and the obligation to participate in the People's Police; in necessary cases, decides on clinical testing, including tests for drug and HIV detection; ensures accuracy and takes responsibility for the results of the military service health examination.
4. The health examination period is from November 1 to December 31 annually. The duration for health examinations for citizens conscripted and fulfilling their obligation to participate in the People's Police for the second time as prescribed in Article 33 of this Law is decided by the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam.
5. Health classification results must be publicly posted at the office of the Commune People's Committee, agencies, and organizations within 20 days.
Thus, according to the above regulation, the period for the 2024 health check for police duty is as follows:
- The health examination period for citizens fulfilling their obligation to participate in the police starts from November 1 to December 31, 2023.
The period for health examinations for citizens conscripted and fulfilling their obligation to participate in the People's Police for the second time as prescribed in Article 33 of the 2015 Law on Military Service is decided by the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam.
- The health examination order must be delivered to citizens 15 days before the health examination period.
