Based on the provisions of Article 2 Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, it is stipulated as follows:
The general education program is implemented according to the following schedule:
1. From the school year 2020-2021 for 1st grade.
2. From the school year 2021-2022 for 2nd and 6th grades.
3. From the school year 2022-2023 for 3rd, 7th, and 10th grades.
4. From the school year 2023-2024 for 4th, 8th, and 11th grades.
5. From the school year 2024-2025 for 5th, 9th, and 12th grades.
Thus, students in 9th grade from the school year 2024-2025 will also follow the 2018 general education program.
It can be seen that the 10th-grade entrance exam in 2024 is the last year applying the 2006 old program’s recruitment.

Which students will receive priority points in the 10th-grade entrance exam?
According to Clause 2, Article 7 Circular 11/2014/TT-BGDDT (some phrases were annulled by Article 2 Circular 05/2018/TT-BGDDT, amended by Clause 4, Article 1 Circular 05/2018/TT-BGDDT, and supplemented by Article 1 Circular 18/2014/TT-BGDDT), students falling into the following categories will receive priority points in the 10th-grade entrance exam:
(1) Group of Category 1:
- Children of martyrs;- Children of injured soldiers who lost 81% or more of their labor capacity;- Children of sick soldiers who lost 81% or more of their labor capacity;- Children of those certified to benefit from policies similar to injured soldiers, where the certified person lost 81% or more of their labor capacity.- Children of those affected by chemical toxins during the resistance;- Children of revolutionary activists before January 1, 1945;- Children of revolutionary activists from January 1, 1945, to the August 1945 revolution.
(2) Group of Category 2:
- Children of Heroes of the Armed Forces, Heroes of Labor, and Vietnamese Heroic Mothers;- Children of injured soldiers who lost less than 81% of their labor capacity;- Children of sick soldiers who lost less than 81% of their labor capacity;- Children of those certified to benefit from policies similar to injured soldiers, where the certified person lost less than 81% of their labor capacity.
(3) Group of Category 3:
- Those who have one or both parents who are ethnic minorities;- Ethnic minorities;- Students living and studying in areas with particularly difficult socioeconomic conditions.
Note: The Department of Education and Training stipulates the additional points for each group of categories with a difference of 0.5 points between successive groups on a 10-point scale.
What should students in Ho Chi Minh City note for the 10th-grade entrance exam in 2024?
(1) Quotas:
On April 17, 2024, in the afternoon, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training officially announced the official quotas for 10th-grade recruitment for the 2024-2025 school year at 113 public high schools in the City.
For the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will recruit 71,020 10th-grade students into 113 public high schools.
(2) Form of Recruitment:
Exam-based: For students graduating from secondary schools in Ho Chi Minh City who wish to enroll in high schools within the City’s jurisdiction.
Number of registration wishes: up to 8 wishes.
Admission based on records for students graduating from secondary schools in Thanh An island commune, Can Gio district.
(3) Exam Schedule:
The 10th-grade entrance exam for public high schools in Ho Chi Minh City will officially take place on June 6 and 7.
(4) Exam Registration:
Registration for 10th-grade entrance exams to public schools and specialized schools will be done online. The deadline for registration is by 5:00 PM on May 12.
From May 14 to 5:00 PM on May 19, parents and students can adjust their registered wishes. Students cannot change their wishes after the admission results are announced.
For students graduating from secondary schools in other provinces and cities, they can submit their registration documents for the 10th-grade entrance exam to Le Hong Phong Specialized High School (District 5) from May 4 to 4:00 PM on May 12.

(5) Exam Subjects:
Candidates will sit for three tests in Literature, Math, and a foreign language (the foreign language being studied at school).
For the foreign language test, candidates can choose from English, French, Japanese, or Chinese.
If candidates do not choose a foreign language test, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will consider the test as being in English.
In addition to regular 10th-grade recruitment, the Department of Education and Training organizes specialized talent recruitment in physical education and sports at Nguyen Thi Dinh Physical Education High School and Binh Chanh Physical Education High School, following the recruitment plan of each school.
(6) Eligibility for participation in the 10th-grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City:
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the eligibility for participation in the public high school 10th-grade entrance exam for the next school year is all students who graduated from secondary schools in Ho Chi Minh City in the 2023-2024 school year at the age to enter 10th grade (15 years old).
Students who skipped grades in previous educational levels or entered schooling at an older age than the stipulated age will have their age for entering the 10th grade adjusted according to their age of graduating from the previous level.
Students who are ethnic minorities, students with disabilities, students in particularly difficult circumstances, or students returning from overseas can enter schooling at an age older than three years from the stipulated age.
