How will the contents of National defense and security education be integrated into primary school curricula in Vietnam from July 1, 2024?
Based on Point 3, Clause 2, Article 3 of Circular 08/2024/TT-BGDDT, the integration of National Defense and Security Education (ND&SE) in primary schools is regulated as follows:
(1) Implemented through integration in subjects and educational activities for each class, according to textbooks chosen by the school, suitable for the cognitive abilities of students in each locality, focusing on the subjects: Literature; Civic Education; History and Geography; Arts (Music, Fine Arts); Local Education Content; Experiential and Career Guidance Activities.
(2) General integrated themes from grades 6 to 9: educating the spirit of solidarity and patriotism of the Vietnamese people in the nation-building and defending through historical periods; protecting sovereignty over seas and islands; protecting sovereignty, territory, and national borders; the rights and responsibilities of citizens towards the cause of national construction and defense; introducing some historical events against foreign aggressors; some content about protecting personal information when participating in social networks; introducing some content about preventing social evils among students; the State's policies on beliefs and religions.
(3) Integrated themes by grade
- Grade 6: Introduce the history and tradition of the Vietnam People's Army and the Vietnam People's Public Security; historical places related to the resistance against foreign invaders; the intelligent and creative strategies of our troops and people in resisting foreign invaders.
- Grade 7: Introduce activities, images of protecting Vietnam's sea and island sovereignty; some content about protecting personal information when participating in social networks; freedom of belief and religion as prescribed by law.
- Grade 8: Educate national pride, self-respect, and the strength of great national unity in the struggle against foreign invaders; introduce some border landmarks; the harmful effects of social evils on all aspects of social life; the responsibility of students in participating in the prevention of school violence.
- Grade 9: Consequences of invasions on Vietnamese people; some images of socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security; introduce some songs praising the glorious traditions of the Vietnam People's Army and the Vietnam People's Public Security; the responsibility of students in participating in the national construction and defense.

Methods and Forms of Integrating ND&SE Content in Schools in Vietnam
Based on Article 4 of Circular 08/2024/TT-BGDDT, the methods and forms of integration are regulated as follows:
- Based on the objectives and content of the lessons, experience, and practical conditions, teachers integrate national defense and security education content in an inspirational, concise, easy-to-remember, and easy-to-understand manner; promoting creativity, suitable for the psychological and physiological characteristics of students; using illustrative images, artifacts suitable for the lesson objectives and content; enhancing the application of information technology in integrated teaching and practice.
- Integrate national defense and security education content through teaching lessons, teaching topics, experiential and career guidance activities inside and outside the classroom; visiting historical sites, museums, traditional houses, military units; organizing camping, reading books, listening to, and competing in traditional storytelling, competitions on understanding national defense and security.
Thus, the methods and forms of integration to implement National Defense and Security Education in schools are outlined above. The integration of national defense and security education content into educational activities not only helps students understand national defense issues but also helps them develop many other important skills throughout their education process.
Duration of Integrating ND&SE Content in Subjects in Vietnam
Based on Clause 3, Article 3 of Circular 08/2024/TT-BGDDT regulating the integration duration as follows:

The duration of integrating national defense and security education content in subjects, educational activities is suitable for the general education curriculum, the educational plan of primary and middle schools; ensuring sufficient national defense and security education content to be conveyed without increasing the learning hours of subjects and educational activities.
Therefore, the integration duration of national defense and security education content in subjects does not increase the learning hours of subjects and educational activities.
