Thus, if students hold one of the certificates specified in the Appendix enclosed with Circular 02/2024/TT-BGDDT or foreign language certificates recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training equivalent to the 6-level foreign language proficiency framework applied in Vietnam (reaching level 3 or higher), they will be exempted from taking the Foreign Language exam for recognition of high school graduation in 2024.

What subjects are included in the 2024 high school graduation exam under the new Exam Regulation in Vietnam?

Under the provisions of Article 3 of the Exam Regulation promulgated together with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT amended by Clause 1 Article 1 of Circular 02/2024/TT-BGDDT, subjects included in the 2024 high school graduation exam are:

Article 3. Test papers
The exam consists of 5 test papers, including 03 independent test papers: Math, Literature, Foreign Languages (English, Russian, French, Chinese, German, Japanese and Korean); 1 test paper of natural science (a subgroup of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology); 1 test paper of Social Science (a subgroup of History, Geography, Civic Education) for with respect to students of compulsory education program at high school level or the test papers of History and Geography with respect to students of continuing education program at high school level.

Thus, the subjects included in the 2024 high school graduation exam are:

(1) For candidates taking test papers of natural science:

+ Mathematics;

+ Philology;

+ English;

+ Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in one test paper of natural science

(2) For candidates taking test papers of the Social Science:

+ Mathematics;

+ Philology;

+ English;

+ History, Geography, Civic Education.

(3) For students of continuing education programs at high school level taking test papers of the Social Science:

What regulations must candidates taking the high school graduation exam in Vietnam comply with?

Under Article 14 of the Regulations on High School Graduation Exam issued together with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT amended and supplemented by Clause 6 Article 1 of Circular 02/2024/TT-BGDDT, candidates taking the high school graduation exam in Vietnam must comply with the following regulations:

(1) Register for the exam by Article 13 of the Regulations on High School Graduation Exam issued together with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT and annual guidelines for administration of high school graduation exam issued by the MOET.

Candidates are responsible for securing the account information and password provided to log in to the Exam Management System.

If candidates forget their account and password, they must contact the registered exam place for assistance.

(2) Be present at a designated exam room on time as specified in the Notice of Taking Exam to complete the exam procedures:

- Present the ID card, either conventional or new format, and receive a Candidate Card;

- Any mistake or error with respect to the first name, middle name, last name, date of birth or eligibility for privileges should be promptly reported the invigilator or the officer on duty at the Exam Place for correction.

- Where the ID card or another necessary document is lost, the candidate must immediately report the manager of the Exam Place for consideration.

(3) In each examination session, the candidate shall be present at the designated exam room on time, and follow the instructions of the invigilation board and invigilators.

Candidates who arrive later than 15 minutes after the official start of the exam shall not be admitted to the exam room.

(4) Follow these rules in the exam room:

- Present the Candidate Card to invigilators; sit on the seat allotted to his/her candidate number;

- To serve the test-taking process, bring into the exam room, including: Pen; ruler; pencil; lead bleaching; êke; graph ruler; drawing tools; handheld computers without word processing functions and without memory cards; geographic atlas of Vietnam for Geography paper compiled according to the 2006 General Education Program (with no mark or interlineations);

Do not bring into the exam room: Charcoal paper, eraser pens, alcoholic beverages; explosive and incendiary weapons and substances; documents, communication devices (recording, broadcasting information, audio recordings, video recordings) or containing information to cheat during the test-taking process;

- Before doing the exam, write the candidate number and details in the question paper, the script or the multiple-choice answer sheet, scrap paper;

When receiving question papers, carefully check the number of pages thereof and the printing quality; any missing, torn or blurry pages should be immediately reported to the invigilators in the exam room within 5 minutes from the distribution time of the question paper;

- During the time in the exam room, maintain order; immediately report to the invigilators when other candidates copy his/her paper or intentionally interfere with his/her paper; not exchange, discuss, or copy other people's papers, allow others to copy papers, use illegal materials to take the exam or make fraudulent gestures or actions. If candidates want to have an opinion, they must raise their hand to ask for permission from the invigilators, after permission, the candidates stand to publicly present opinions.

Refrain from writing or drawing any secret mark, refrain from using pencil except for filling in circle in the multiple-choice answer sheet; write one single ink color in the script (red ink is prohibited);

- Refrain from leaving the exam room throughout the allotted time given to a multiple-choice exam; for the essay exam, candidates may leave the exam room and area after two thirds of the allotted time given to a written exam, and submit the script/sheet together with question paper, scrap paper before leaving. Candidates may leave the exam room, in exceptional circumstances, with permission of invigilators and accompanied by a supervisor.

In case of medical emergency, the leave of candidates must be accompanied by the police until the end of the exam session and subject to decision of the manager of the Exam Place;

- Stop writing immediately when the end of the exam session is announced, keep the intact test paper;

Write the number of submitted pages and sign on the acknowledgement of submission when handing in the written paper scripts. Candidates who fail to do the papers still have to hand in their answer sheets (for written exam) or multiple-choice answer sheets (for multiple-choice exam);

(5) When taking a multiple-choice paper, in addition to the regulations in Clause 4, Article 14 of the Regulations on high school graduation exam issued with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT, candidates must comply with the following regulations:

- Fill in their answers on the multiple-choice answer sheets printed in the format of the MOET; only fill in the circles of candidate number, question paper code and answers with stray pencils; erase completely without leaving any stray pencil mark in the old circle and fill in the expected one, in case of changing answers;

- Fill in correctly all required fields printed on the multiple-choice answer sheet; for the candidate number field, all digits must be written and filled in (even “0” digits at the beginning); write the question paper code correctly on the two copies of acknowledgement of submission;

- Check if the codes of the component papers in the natural science or social science paper are the same as each other after receiving a question paper; and promptly inform the invigilators within no more than 5 minutes after receiving such a question paper in case of different codes; put the question paper under the multiple-choice answer sheet and only read the question paper after the invigilator has given such a permission;

- Check if the question paper have enough questions and pages as stated in the beginning of the paper and all pages of the paper have the same question code;

- Refrain from submitting the script before the end of the exam session; hand in the multiple-choice answer sheet to the invigilators and sign in two copies of acknowledgement of submission at the end of the session;

- Only leave the exam room after the invigilators confirm that they receive an adequate number of multiple-choice answer sheets in the exam room and permit the leave.

- Candidates who only take the first and/or second component of the combined paper, after submitting the multiple-choice answer sheet, the candidate leaves the exam room and moves to the exit waiting room until the end of the final exam time to leave the exam area.

During the process of moving to the exit waiting room and during the time in the exit waiting room, candidates must maintain order, and strictly follow the instructions of the supervisor or the manager of the waiting room/waiting area.

In case of necessity, candidates only exit the waiting room with the permission of the manager and under the supervision of the supervisor when leaving the waiting room;

- Candidates who only take the second and/or third component of the combined paper must be present at the place where the candidate is called into the exam room at least 10 minutes before the time of distribution of the question papers to do the preparation.

If candidates arrive earlier (15 minutes or more before the time of distribution of the question papers), they must wait in the waiting room;

- Candidates only take the first and third component subjects in the combined paper: As soon as the time for the first component subject is over, candidates must sit in the same position, keep order, place the Multiple-choice Answer Sheet so that the answer bowl is face down on the table at the candidate's sitting position and preserve the Multiple-choice Answer Sheet during the waiting period for the next component subject.

(6) Follow the instructions of invigilators and authorized persons at the Exam Place, in case of any unexpected situations.
