Guidelines on the Organization of Examination and Assessment for Secondary Students in the Academic Year 2022-2023 in Ho Chi Minh City
Guidelines for organizing the examination and evaluation of students in the academic year 2022-2023 for grades 8, 9, 11, and 12.
According to Subsection 1, Section II of Official Dispatch 3995/SGDDT-GDTrH, 2022, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has provided the following guidance on types of tests and evaluations:
First: Regular assessment
- Regular assessment is conducted during the teaching and education process, aimed at evaluating the process and the results of students' performance in their learning and training tasks according to the program of the subject and educational activities in the 2006 General Education Program (CT GDPT 2006).
- Regular assessment can be performed directly or online through methods such as Q&A, writing, presentations, practical exercises, experiments, and learning products.
- The number of regular assessments is not limited by the number of recorded scores.
Second: Periodic assessment
- Periodic assessment is conducted after each educational stage to evaluate the students' learning results, training, and the completion level of their learning tasks according to the defined program of the subject and educational activities.
- Periodic assessment, including mid-term and end-term evaluations, is carried out through tests (on paper or computer), practical exercises, and learning projects.
+ The duration for tests (on paper or computer) for subjects ranges from 45 minutes to 90 minutes, and for specialized subjects, up to 120 minutes. Test papers are constructed based on matrices and specifications that meet the required standards of the subject and educational activities defined.
+ For practical exercises and learning projects, instructions and evaluation criteria must be provided to students before implementation.

According to Subsection 1, Section II of Official Dispatch 3995/SGDDT-GDTrH, 2022, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has provided guidance on types of tests and evaluations as follows:
First: Regular assessment
- Regular assessment is conducted during the teaching and education process to evaluate the process and the results of students' performance in their learning and training tasks according to the program of the subject and educational activities in the 2018 General Education Program (CT GDPT 2018).
- Regular assessment can be performed directly or online through methods such as Q&A, writing, presentations, practical exercises, experiments, and learning products.
- For a subject, each student is assessed multiple times, from which a number of assessments are selected according to the teaching plan of the subject group, recorded in the student evaluation and follow-up book (per class) for use in evaluating subject learning outcomes as follows:
+ For subjects evaluated by comments (excluding study modules): 2 selections per semester.
+ For subjects evaluated by a combination of comments and scores (excluding study modules), a conformable number of regular assessment scores are selected.
+ For study modules in high school subjects, each student is assessed for each module, and the result of one assessment is selected as the evaluation result for that study module. The evaluation result of the study module is counted as one regular assessment of the subject and recorded in the student evaluation and follow-up book (per class) for use in evaluating subject learning outcomes as regulated.
Second: Periodic assessment
- Periodic assessment (not applied to study modules), including mid-term and end-term evaluations, is conducted through tests (on paper or computer), practical exercises, and learning projects.
+ The duration for tests (on paper or computer) for subjects (excluding study modules) with up to 70 periods/year is 45 minutes, for subjects (excluding study modules) with over 70 periods/year from 60 to 90 minutes; for specialized subjects, up to 120 minutes.
+ For score-based tests (on paper or computer), the test papers are constructed based on matrices and specifications that meet the required standards of the subject as defined in the CT GDPT 2018.
+ For comment-based tests (on paper or computer), practical exercises, and learning projects, instructions and evaluation criteria according to the required standards of the subject defined in the CT GDPT 2018 must be provided before implementation.
- Each semester, each subject evaluated by comments has 1 mid-term assessment and 1 end-term assessment.
- Each semester, each subject evaluated by a combination of comments and scores has 1 mid-term score and 1 end-term score.
- Students who do not participate in the required number of assessments for justified reasons are allowed supplementary assessments with equivalent requirements to the missing assessments. The supplementary assessment is conducted in each semester.
- Students who do not participate in the supplementary assessments as required are evaluated as Not Achieved or receive a score of 0 (zero) for the missing assessment.
What are the guidelines for the periodic test schedule for the academic year 2022-2023?
According to Subsection 4, Section II of Official Dispatch 3995/SGDDT-GDTrH, 2022, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City provides the following guidelines:
- Periodic test schedule for the academic year 2022-2023
+ Mid-term 1 assessment: After the 8th week of the first semester.
+ End-term 1 assessment: To be completed by January 7, 2023.
+ Mid-term 2 assessment: After the 7th week of the second semester.
+ End-term 2 assessment: To be completed by May 20, 2023.
- For subjects and educational activities with different teaching schedules, the school will set the mid-term and end-term assessment schedules to ensure they align with the subject's teaching schedule and educational activities as specified in the program, and the completion dates comply with Decision No. 2708/QD-UBND dated August 10, 2022, of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
