According to the provisions of National Technical Regulation QCVN 41:2019/BGTVT, each type of road sign has different meanings. Specifically:
- Group of prohibitive signs: Indicates the prohibitions that road users must not violate.
- Group of mandatory signs: Inform vehicle drivers of the mandatory things to observe when participating in traffic.
- Group of danger warning signs: Used to warn vehicle drivers in advance of the nature of danger or things to pay attention to prevent on the road from participating in traffic to proactively and promptly prevent accidents. problem.

What is the order of priority of road signs in Vietnam?
In Article 4, QCVN 41:2019/BGTVT is regulated immediately. As follows:
When simultaneously arranging different forms of road signs with different meanings in the same area, road users must obey these types of signals in the following order:
- The signal of the traffic controller
- The signal of the signal light
- The signal of the road signs
- Finally, the signal of the road markings and other signs on the road surface.
Note: When at a position where there is a fixed signboard and another sign is placed temporarily but the two signs have different meanings, road users must obey the temporary road sign.
+ Temporary signs are signs used for situational purposes to organize short-term traffic control such as in events, traffic incidents or during road construction or repair.
What should be paid attention to road signs in Vietnam?
Traffic participants should pay attention to recognize and obey the following common signs:
*Road signs prohibit going in the opposite direction
- According to QCVN 41:2019/BGTVT, the sign prohibiting going in the opposite direction has a circular shape, a red background and a large white dash in the middle. The sign prohibiting going in the opposite direction is placed at the beginning of one-way roads, so many people call it a one-way street sign.
- Meaning: to signal the road ahead to prohibit vehicles (motorized and rudimentary) from entering in the direction of the sign, except for priority vehicles on duty such as fire trucks; military vehicles, police cars, convoys led by police cars; ambulance; dyke vehicle, etc. Pedestrians are allowed to walk on sidewalks or roadside.
*Pedestrian road signs
According to QCVN 41:2019/BGTVT, pedestrian road signs include the following signs:
- Signboard P.112 "Prohibit pedestrians": Signifies that the road ahead is forbidden for pedestrians to cross. This sign is placed at an intersection or in front of a position on the road to be banned, valid on all lanes or only valid on one or several lanes according to the road sign.
- Signboard W.224 “Pedestrian crossing”: It is meant to foretell the upcoming section of the road for pedestrians to cross the road. When encountering this sign, vehicles must slow down and give priority to pedestrians. Vehicles are only allowed to run when there is no danger to pedestrians.
- Signboard R.305 “Pedestrian Road”: Signifies the right-of-way for pedestrians. Motorized and rudimentary vehicles (except bicycles and wheelchairs for the disabled), including priority vehicles, are not allowed in.
- Signboard I.423 (a,b) "Pedestrian crossing position": It is meant to instruct pedestrians and road users to know the position for pedestrians to cross. Vehicles encountering this sign must control the vehicle to slow down, pay attention to observe, give priority to pedestrians crossing.
- Signboard I.423c “Starting point of the pedestrian path”: It is meant to instruct pedestrians and drivers where the pedestrian section begins.
- Signboard I.424 (a,b) "Pedestrian crossing bridge": It is meant to instruct pedestrians to use the bridge over the road.
- Number plate I.424 (c,d) "Pedestrian tunnel": It is meant to instruct pedestrians to use the tunnel.
*Road signs prohibit parking
According to QCVN 41:2019/BGTVT, the road sign forbidding parking includes 03 sub-signs: Signs P.131a, P.131b and P.131c.
