How are health standards classifications for officers regulated?
According to the regulations in Section II of Decision 1266/QD-BYT in 2020 regarding the classification of health standards for officers as follows:
- Type A: Healthy, no illness or only common illnesses that do not affect work, daily life, and personal health, under 60 years old.
- Type B1: Fit for work, has one or several chronic illnesses that need monitoring and treatment but do not or only slightly affect work, daily life, and personal health, under 70 years old.
- Type B2: Fit for work, has several chronic illnesses needing frequent monitoring and treatment but currently in a stable phase, slightly affects work, daily life, and personal health, under 80 years old.
- Type C: Unfit for work at the time of health examination, has several severe chronic illnesses with complications, needs 1 to 3 months off to treat the illness.
- Type D: Unfit to continue working, severe illness in the final stage, heavy complications, unlikely recovery, health has significantly declined, needs to take a complete break from work for treatment and rehabilitation.

Can officers with Type C health examination results continue working?
According to the regulations in Subsection 3 Section III of Decision 1266/QD-BYT in 2020 regarding periodic health examinations for officers as follows:
1. Classification of health: 5 types as in Section II.
According to the Appendix on Health Classification Standards for Officers (attached Appendix).
2. If it is the first time placing under health management (QLSK), the individual must undergo a health check to assess health status and detect diseases if any, classify health, and set up a health monitoring record as a model for long-term monitoring and QLSK.
3. Annually, officers are subjected to health checks (02 times/year for senior officers, or at least 01 time/year depending on specific local conditions), assessed and classified accurately with the actual health status and disease condition if any, and undergo health checks to complete the personnel records for planning, appointment, reappointment of officers, and personnel for the sessions of the Communist Party’s Delegate Congress at all levels.
4. Classification, assessment, and health classification proposals are reviewed by the Medical Council under the Central Committee for Protecting and Caring for Health of Officers for officers under the management of the Politburo, Secretariat; reviewed by the Medical Council under the Committee for Protecting and Caring for Health of Officers of provinces, cities, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Public Security for officers under management.
5. The Central Committee for Protecting and Caring for Health of Officers, based on the proposal of the Medical Council, concludes periodic health classification, health checks before appointment, reappointment, nomination, and planning for officers under the management of the Politburo, Secretariat according to current regulations.
6. The Committee for Protecting and Caring for Health of Officers of provinces, cities, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Public Security, based on the proposal of the Medical Council, concludes periodic health classification, health checks before appointment, reappointment, nomination, and planning for officers under management according to current regulations.
According to the regulations in Subsection 4 Section II of Decision 1266/QD-BYT in 2020 regarding health examination classification as follows:
4. Type C: Unfit for work at the time of health examination, has several severe chronic illnesses with complications, needs 1 to 3 months off to treat the illness.
Thus, in the case where officers have a Type C health examination result at the periodic health check, indicating several severe chronic illnesses with complications and needing 1 to 3 months off for treatment.
