Citizens can renew their expired passports online by following these steps:

Step 1: Access the website

Citizens should visit the following website: https://hochieu.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/ and select the section to fill in the passport application form.

Step 2: The screen will display the passport application form. Citizens must accurately fill in their personal information.

Step 3: In the section for application details

Select the appropriate options according to your needs:

- Renew passport due to expired passport.- Renew passport due to soon-to-be-expired passport.

Step 4: After filling in all personal information, citizens select the receiving agency, then click [Check the filled information]

Step 5: At this point, the screen will display the entire form for citizens to review the information.

Select [Go back] if you need to correct the information

Select [Schedule an appointment for submitting the application] to submit the application online as follows:

Then select [Accept] and print the application form.

Step 6: Prepare the application including:

When will the passport expire?

According to Article 7 of the Law on Exit and Entry of Vietnamese Citizens 2019, the duration of exit and entry documents is as follows:

1. Diplomatic passports and official passports are valid for 01 to 05 years; they can be extended once for no more than 03 years.

2. The duration for ordinary passports is specified as follows:

a) Ordinary passports issued to individuals aged 14 and above are valid for 10 years and cannot be extended;

b) Ordinary passports issued to individuals under 14 years are valid for 05 years and cannot be extended;

c) Ordinary passports issued under expedited procedures are valid for no more than 12 months and cannot be extended.

3. Travel documents are valid for no more than 12 months and cannot be extended.

Passports expire at the end of the period specific to each type:

- Diplomatic passports and official passports are valid for 01 to 05 years.- Ordinary passports issued to individuals aged 14 and above are valid for 10 years and cannot be extended.- Ordinary passports issued to individuals under 14 years are valid for 05 years and cannot be extended.- Ordinary passports issued under expedited procedures are valid for no more than 12 months and cannot be extended.

What is the fee for issuing a new passport?

According to the fee schedule attached to Circular 25/2021/TT-BTC, the fees for passport issuance are as follows:

The above-mentioned fees apply to passports with and without electronic chips.

However, Circular 44/2023/TT-BTC stipulates that from July 1, 2023, the passport issuance fee will be 80% of the fee specified in Section I of the fee schedule attached to Circular 25/2021/TT-BTC.

The new passport issuance fee from July 1, 2023, will therefore be 160,000 VND.

Article 1 of Circular 44/2023/TT-BTC states:

Hence, the reduced passport issuance fee of 160,000 VND will apply from July 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023.

This means that from 2024, the passport issuance fee will be applied as per Circular 25/2021/TT-BTC, unless there are changes.
