The duties of a Senior Statistician are prescribed in Clause 2 Article 5 Circular 08/2023/TT-BKHDT:
- Lead research, develop guidelines, policies, strategies, planning, proposals, programs, and projects on statistics for ministries, sectors nationwide, or for cities and provinces directly under central authority.
- Lead or participate in drafting, amending, supplementing legal documents related to the field of statistics.
- Lead or participate in drafting, appraising, and organizing the implementation of statistical practice guidelines;
- Propose selecting advanced international statistical methods suitable to the conditions of Vietnam Statistics.
- Lead the organization, direction, and guidance for sectors, localities, and organizations in conducting activities of collecting, summarizing, analyzing, disseminating, and keeping statistical information.
- Lead or participate in researching state-level, ministerial-level, and provincial-level scientific research topics and projects to innovate and improve statistical management mechanisms, enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of statistical activities.
- Lead or participate in compiling and appraising statistical information products;
- Compile syllabuses, textbooks, and teach training, retraining, and special statistical courses for both in-sector and out-sector personnel.
- Lead, organize, direct, guide, and inspect the statistical operations for officials within the state statistical organization system.

- The appointment and salary arrangement for officials in the statistics specialty must be based on job positions, responsibilities, duties, and professional expertise.
- When appointing to the corresponding statistics specialty positions, it cannot be combined with pay rise or promotion of official ranks.
Circular 08/2023/TT-BKHDT will take effect from November 15, 2023.
