According to Resolution 27/NQ-TW of 2018 regarding reforms for the army and police as follows:
A new salary system will be developed and issued based on job positions, titles, and leadership positions, replacing the current salary system; transitioning old salaries to new salaries, ensuring they are not lower than current salaries.
Thus, according to the above-mentioned content, after implementing the salary reform from July 01, 2024, professional military personnel will receive salaries according to job positions, replacing the current salary system while ensuring the new salary is not lower than the current salary.
The salary table for professional military personnel under sub-item 3.1, Item 3, Part II of Resolution 27-NQ/TW of 2018 stipulates the contents of the new salary structure design as follows:
- Basic salary
- Allowances
- Additional bonuses
Thus, from July 01, 2024, professional military personnel may receive additional income from bonuses (if any) (the bonus fund is approximately 10% of the total annual salary fund, excluding allowances).

Service terms and ages of professional military personnel
1. The service terms of professional military personnel in peacetime are as follows:
a) A minimum service term of 06 years from the date of the decision to convert to professional military personnel;
b) Service until the maximum age as prescribed in clause 2 of this article.
2. The maximum ages of professional military personnel in active service according to military rank:
a) Lieutenant rank: men 52 years, women 52 years;
b) Major, Lieutenant Colonel: men 54 years, women 54 years;
c) Colonel: men 56 years, women 55 years.
3. Professional military personnel with high technical and professional qualifications, good political quality, morals, health, and voluntary, if the army needs, will be considered for five-year service extension.
4. Combatants who complete their mission at 40 years old will be prioritized for training and assigned other positions appropriate to the army's requirements or transferred to another industry. If it is impossible to continue using them in the army or transferring them, and they have 20 years of social insurance with at least 15 years as combatants, they will be allowed to retire.
The list of combat positions is regulated by the Minister of National Defense.
Accordingly, the service age of professional military personnel is currently calculated according to military rank:
+ Lieutenant rank: men 52 years, women 52 years.
