Based on Article 42 of the High School Graduation Examination Regulations issued with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT which provides for the recognition of high school graduation as follows:
High School Graduation Recognition
1. Candidates who meet the exam conditions, are not disciplined with cancellation of exam results, all exam papers and component subjects of the registered combined exam for graduation recognition must achieve over 1.0 points on a 10-point scale and have a graduation exam score of 5.0 (five) points or higher are recognized for high school graduation.
2. Candidates who meet the conditions for taking the exam, are exempt from all exam papers in the high school graduation consideration according to the provisions at Article 36 of these Regulations are recognized for high school graduation.
Thus, if any one of the three mandatory subjects (Mathematics, Literature, Foreign Language) is 1.0 points or below or just one subject of the combined exam (it can be natural sciences or social sciences) has a score of 1.0 points or below, it will be counted as a critical score and the candidate will fail the high school graduation exam.
Therefore, candidates must achieve over 1.0 points on all exam papers and component subjects of the combined exam, and have a graduation exam score of at least 5.0 points to pass the 2024 high school graduation exam.

How to calculate the Vietnam high school graduation exam score for 2024?
Based on Article 41 of the Regulations issued with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT regarding the National High School Graduation Exam Score for 2024 as follows:
The high school graduation exam score (ĐXTN): Includes the scores of the exam papers that candidates take for graduation recognition according to the provisions at point a, clause 3, Article 12 of the Regulations issued with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT, bonus points, encouragement points (if any), and the average score of the entire 12th-grade year; the score of each exam paper is converted to a 10-point scale to calculate the high school graduation exam score.

Bonus Points in the Vietnam National High School Graduation Exam for 2024?
Based on Article 39 of the High School Graduation Examination Regulations issued with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT, amended and supplemented by Article 1 Circular 06/2023/TT-BGDDT, it regulates bonus points in the National High School Graduation Exam for 2024 as follows:
High school graduation recognition is considered in three categories: Category 1, Category 2, Category 3; among which, Category 1 candidates are normal candidates and do not receive bonus points; Category 2 and Category 3 candidates receive bonus points.
- Category 2: Add 0.25 points for candidates who belong to one of the following groups:
+ War invalids, sick soldiers, people receiving policies equivalent to war invalids with a reduction in labor capacity below 81% (for continuing education);
+ Children of war invalids, sick soldiers, people receiving policies equivalent to war invalids with a reduction in labor capacity below 81%; Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, Labor Heroes; children of Vietnamese heroic mothers; children of Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, Labor Heroes;
+ Ethnic minorities;
+ Kinh people, foreigners residing in Vietnam who have had a permanent residence during their high school years for 3 years or more in especially difficult communes, border communes, safe zone communes under the Program 135 according to Decision 135/QD-TTg in 1998 (counting from the time these communes completed Program 135 onwards); especially difficult communes in coastal areas and islands; areas I, II, III communes, and communes with extremely difficult villages of ethnic minorities and mountainous areas according to the current regulations of the Prime Minister or the Minister, the Chief of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities, studying at general high schools not located in the urban districts of centrally governed cities for at least two-thirds of their high school time;
+ People affected by chemical toxins; children of people affected by chemical toxins; children of resistance activists affected by chemical toxins; people recognized by a competent authority as deformed, defective, reducing self-reliance in living or labor due to the impact of chemical toxins;
+ Those aged 35 or older, as of the examination date (for continuing education candidates).
- Category 3: Add 0.5 points for candidates who belong to one of the following groups:
+ Ethnic minorities having a permanent residence during their high school years for 3 years or more in especially difficult communes, border communes, safe zone communes eligible for investment under the Program 135 according to Decision 135/QD-TTg in 1998 (counting from the time these communes completed Program 135 onwards); especially difficult communes in coastal areas and islands; areas I, II, III communes, and communes with extremely difficult villages in ethnic minority and mountainous areas according to the current regulations of the Prime Minister or the Minister, the Chief of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities, studying at ethnic boarding schools or high schools not located in the urban districts of centrally governed cities;
+ War invalids, sick soldiers, people receiving policies equivalent to war invalids with a reduction in labor capacity of 81% or more (for continuing education);
+ Children of martyrs; children of war invalids, sick soldiers, people receiving policies equivalent to war invalids with a reduction in labor capacity of 81% or more.
Note: Candidates with multiple priority criteria will only receive the highest priority criterion.
Other priority categories already specified in the current legal documents will be considered and decided by the Minister of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET).
