Based on Clause 1, Article 4 of the Regulation on selecting national excellent students issued with Circular 56/2011/TT-BGDDT (amended by Clause 1, Article 1 Circular 02/2023/TT-BGDDT), the subjects and conditions for participating in the national excellent student contests are as follows:

- Each Department of Education and Training, ethnic boarding high school under the Ministry of Education and Training, and each university, academy, or specialized high school can register as a unit participating in the exam;

- Contestants are students currently studying at the high school level, having conduct (or training) and academic (or study) grades of "good" or higher according to the end-of-term (or school year) results adjacent to the exam, and selected into the competition team of the participating unit;

- Each contestant is only allowed to participate in one subject.

Based on the regulations in Article 27 of the Regulation on selecting national excellent students issued with Circular 56/2011/TT-BGDDT, the responsibilities of students participating in the national excellent student contests are as follows:

- Be present at the exam venue on the specified date and time. Contestants arriving late after the start time will not be allowed to take the exam.

- Present the Exam Card (for the national excellent student contests) before entering the exam room.

- Sit in the correct seat according to the registration number specified in the exam room; sign the attendance list for each exam session.

- Only bring the documents and items specified in Article 26 into the exam room.

- When receiving the exam paper, check the number of pages, write the registration number on the exam paper. If any pages are missing or damaged, report to the invigilator within a maximum of 10 minutes from the start of the exam.

- During the exam session, do not exchange, discuss, or copy others' work; do not condone cheating; maintain order; raise your hand if you need assistance or wish to leave the exam room, and only speak or leave the room if permitted by the invigilator; in case of any irregularity, follow the invigilator’s instructions.

- The exam paper must be written using one type of pen and ink; do not use red ink, pencil (except for drawing circles with a compass); do not mark or make any special symbols on the paper; incorrect parts must be crossed out, not erased in any way (including using a correction pen).

- Students taking the Informatics exam must perform and save their work on the computer's hard drive; maintain all seals on the computer until the end of the exam.

- At the end of the exam:

+ For written exams: All students must stop writing immediately and submit their papers; write the number of answer sheets submitted and sign the paper receipt form (including if no answers were given);

+ For the Informatics exam: All students must immediately turn off the computer screen. When permitted by the invigilator, students may turn on the screen again and unseal the CD drive to save their work; then, students witness the invigilator print their work from the CD to paper; students sign the CD and printed paper;

+ For practical exams in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and speaking exams in Foreign Languages: Students follow specific regulations according to the annual exam organization guidelines from the Ministry of Education and Training.

- After the exam ends, students may only leave the exam room when permitted by the invigilator.

How much are students awarded for winning in the national excellent student contests in Vietnam?

4. Students winning prizes in national exams as stipulated in Clause 1, Article 2 of this Decree are awarded as follows:

a) First Prize: 4 million VND;

- The funding for awarding students winning in the national excellent student contests is paid by the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs from the state budget.

- Organizations and individuals are encouraged to use other legal funding sources to award students winning in national and international exams.
