How much is a one-off discharge allowance for completing military service in 2023 in Vietnam?

Pursuant to Article 7 of Decree 27/2016/ND-CP stipulating the one-off discharge allowance for non-commissioned officers and soldiers as follows:

Article 7. One-off discharge allowances and allowances for job creation and traveling are provided for discharged non-commissioned officers and soldiers
1. In addition to one-off benefits from social insurance under Vietnam Law provision on social insurance, the discharged non-commissioned officer/soldier shall receive one-off discharge allowances; the allowances for one year serving in the military force shall be equal to the amount of 2 month’s statutory pay as regulated by the Government at the time of discharge. Allowance for an incomplete year: Less than 1 month: no allowance; 1 – 6 months: 1 month’s statutory pay; from more than 6 months to 12 months: 2 month’s statutory pay.
2. Non-commissioned officers/soldiers who have served in military force for 30 months inclusive shall receive an additional allowance equal to 2 month’s current monthly rank allowances when discharged; if discharged prior to the time mentioned above, an additional allowance of 1 month’s current monthly rank allowances shall be paid for the period from the 25th month to the 30th month.
3. Non-commissioned officers/soldiers who fulfill their duty of military service as specified in the Vietnam Law of Military Duty shall receive allowances for job creation equal to 6 month’s basic salary when being discharged as regulated by the Government on the discharge day.
4. Discharged non-commissioned officers/soldiers will have a farewell meeting before discharge held by their supervisory authority with the cost of VND 50,000/person; and taken back to their residence place as regulated or provided with an allowance for travel.

Accordingly, citizens who complete military service in 2023 upon demobilization will receive a one-off discharge allowance. Each year of service in the Army is subsidized by 02 months of base salary.

So.

- According to Clause 3 of Resolution 69/2022/QH15, from July 01, 2023, the base salary will increase to 1,800,000 VND. Therefore, if this base salary does not change in the near future, citizens who go to military service in 2023 will receive a one-off discharge allowance of VND 7,200,000.

When is the military service calendar 2023 in Vietnam?

Pursuant to Article 33 of the 2015 Vietnam Law on Military Service, it provides as follows:

Article 33. Time of conscription and performance of military service in the People’s Police force
Annually, citizens shall be conscripted and requested to perform military service in People’s Army or People’s Police in February or March; in case of necessity for defense purposes, the conscription shall be carried out the second time. Regarding areas with disaster or dangerous epidemic, time for conscription and service in People’s Army or People’s Police shall be adjusted.

According to this regulation, in 2023, citizens will be called to enlist in February 2023 or March 2023.

Only when there is a need for defense and security reasons, citizens will be called up for a second enlistment.

When will I be discharged from the army in 2023 in Vietnam?

Pursuant to Article 21 of the Vietnam Law on Military Service 2015, it provides as follows:

Article 21: Duration of service in regular armed force of non-commissioned officers/enlisted soldiers
1. Duration of service in regular armed force in peacetime of non-commissioned officers/enlisted soldiers is 24 months.
2. The Minister of National Defense may give decision on extension of duration of service in regular armed force of non-commissioned officers/enlisted soldiers in the following cases (the extension shall not exceed 6 months):
a) To ensure the readiness for combat;
b) During the prevention and fighting against natural disasters/epidemics and the rescue activities.
3. The duration of service of non-commissioned officers/enlisted soldiers in wartime or in emergency condition of national defense shall be in accordance with the general mobilization or local mobilization.

At the same time, based on Article 43 of the Vietnam Law on Military Service 2015, it provides as follows:

Article 43. Conditions for demobilization
1. Any non-commissioned officers/enlisted soldiers who has performed the active duty military for the period of time specified in clauses 1 and 2 Article 21 of this Vietnam Law shall be demobilized.
2. A non-commissioned officer/enlisted soldier may be demobilized before the regular date of demobilization in case the Medical Examination Council concludes that he/she does not have satisfactory health for continuing the active duty service or the cases specified in points b and c clause 1; points a, b and c clause 2 Article 41 of this Vietnam Law.

In addition, Article 32 of the Vietnam Law on Military Service 2015 provides as follows:

Article 32. Recognition of active duty enlisted soldiers
Any citizen turning to 17 years old and wishing to permanently serve in People’s Army who satisfies the requirements prescribed in the Vietnam Laws and is studying in a military academy shall be recognized active duty enlisted soldiers.

Thus, according to the above regulations, the active duty period is 24 months, so for citizens who enlist in 2023, in February or March 2025 will be discharged.
