Referring to Article 7 of the 2015 Military Service Law, the regulations are as follows:

Obligation to Serve in the Reserve Component

1. Male citizens of military service age are obliged to serve in the reserve component in the following cases:

a) Reaching the end of enlistment age but not yet serving on active duty;

b) Ceasing to serve on active duty;

c) Ceasing to serve in the People's Public Security.

2. Female citizens of military service age with professions and specializations suitable to the needs of the People's Army.

How must citizens prepare documentation to register to serve in the reserve component of the army?

3. Procedure

a) Ten days before registration to serve in the reserve component, the Commune Military Command must deliver the military service summons to citizens specified in Clauses 1 and 2, Article 18 of the Military Service Law by April every year. If an agency or organization has no Military Command, the head or legal representative must deliver the military service summons to the citizens.

Within 15 working days from the date citizens specified in Clause 3, Article 18 of the Military Service Law return to their local residence, they must directly register to serve in the reserve component at the Commune Military Command on working days (according to the working schedule of the Commune Military Command);

b) Within one day, the Commune Military Command must complete the reserve soldier card, enter into the Reserve Soldier Register, and issue the Reserve Soldier Certificate to the registered citizens. If an agency or organization has no Military Command, the head or legal representative must organize the registration of citizens to serve in the reserve component at their residence;

c) Within ten days, the Commune Military Command must report to the District Military Command. The District Military Command must aggregate the data into the Reserve Soldier Register.
