Civil Servants' Probationary Period Duration and Salary Entitlements
How long is the probation period for civil servants?
Based on the provisions of Clause 2, Article 20 of Decree 138/2020/ND-CP, the regulations are as follows:
Probation Policy
1. Individuals recruited into the civil service must undergo a probationary period to familiarize themselves with the operational environment and practice the tasks of the recruited position.
2. The probationary period is regulated as follows:
a) 12 months for those recruited into civil service category C;
b) 06 months for those recruited into civil service category D;
c) Maternity leave according to social insurance benefits, sick leave of 14 days or more, unpaid leave, detention, temporary custody, temporary suspension of work as prescribed by law will not be counted in the probationary period.
In case the probationer takes sick leave or has a legitimate reason for less than 14 days and is approved by the head of the agency or unit where the person is carrying out the probation policy, this period will be counted into the probationary period.

Thus, based on the above regulations, the probationary period for civil servants is stipulated as follows:
- 12 months for those recruited into civil service category C.
- 06 months for those recruited into civil service category D.
*Note:

Thus, based on the above regulations, the probation content for civil servants includes the following:

Do probationary civil servants receive a salary?
Based on the provisions of Article 22 of Decree 138/2020/ND-CP, the regulations are as follows:
Policy for Probationers and Probation Supervisors
1. During the probation period, probationers receive 85% of the salary of grade 1 of the recruitment rank. In case the probationer has a master's degree relevant to the requirements of the recruited position, they receive 85% of the salary of grade 2 of the recruitment rank; in case the probationer has a doctoral degree relevant to the requirements of the recruited position, they receive 85% of the salary of grade 3 of the recruitment rank. Allowances are received according to legal regulations.
2. Probationers receive 100% of the salary and allowances of the recruitment rank corresponding to the educational qualifications prescribed in Clause 1 of this Article in the following cases:
a) Working in areas with exceptionally difficult socio-economic conditions;
b) Working in dangerous, hazardous industries, professions;
c) Completing military service, participating in the people's police force, military officers, police officers, professional army personnel in retirement, crypto personnel transitioning to other sectors, graduated reserve officer trainee, graduated local military chief officer trainee awarded a reserve officer rank registered in the reserve officer category, youth volunteers, young intellectuals volunteering for rural and mountainous development for at least 24 months who have completed their mission.
3. The probation period is not counted towards the time for salary grade promotion.
4. Civil servants assigned by agencies or organizations to supervise probation receive a responsibility allowance coefficient of 0.3 compared to the statutory pay rate during the probationary supervision period.
Thus, based on the above regulations, during the probation period, probationary civil servants receive the following salary:
- 85% of the salary of grade 1 of the recruitment rank.
- In case the probationer has a master's degree relevant to the requirements of the recruited position, they receive 85% of the salary of grade 2 of the recruitment rank.
- In case the probationer has a doctoral degree relevant to the requirements of the recruited position, they receive 85% of the salary of grade 3 of the recruitment rank.
- Probationers receive 100% of the salary and allowances of the recruitment rank corresponding to the educational qualifications prescribed above in the following cases:
