Who Will Be Discharged from Military Service in 2024?
According to Article 43 of the Military Service Law 2015, the conditions for discharge are stipulated as follows:
Conditions for Discharge
1. Non-commissioned officers and soldiers who have completed the prescribed active duty period according to Clauses 1 and 2 of Article 21 of this Law shall be discharged.
2. Non-commissioned officers and soldiers on active duty may be discharged ahead of schedule when the Military Medical Board concludes that they are unfit to continue serving on active duty or in the cases stipulated at Points b and c, Clause 1; Points a, b, and c, Clause 2, Article 41 of this Law.
Based on the provisions of Article 21 of the Military Service Law 2015:
Duration of Active Duty for Non-Commissioned Officers and Soldiers
1. The duration of active duty in peacetime for non-commissioned officers and soldiers is 24 months.
2. The Minister of National Defense may decide to extend the duration of active duty for non-commissioned officers and soldiers by no more than 06 months in the following cases:
a) To ensure combat readiness tasks;
b) When performing duties of disaster prevention, disease control, rescue, and relief.

Additionally, Article 33 of the Military Service Law 2015 stipulates the timing of calling citizens for military service as follows:
Number of Times and Timing of Calling Citizens for Military Service and Participating in the People's Public Security Force Annually
Annually, citizens are called to join the military service and participate in the People's Public Security Force once in February or March; in exceptional cases due to defense or security reasons, citizens may be called to join the military service and participate in the People's Public Security Force a second time. For localities experiencing disasters or dangerous epidemics, the timing to call for military service and participation in the People's Public Security Force may be adjusted.
Thus, according to the above provisions, the time to call citizens for military service is in February or March. The active service duration is 24 months (except in cases of extended service time), so for those who were called up in 2022, discharge will be in February or March 2024.
Except for special cases where the Minister of National Defense decides to extend the active duty period of non-commissioned officers and soldiers, but not exceeding 06 months.

Additionally, according to Article 6 of the Military Service Law 2015, which stipulates the performance of military service by citizens as follows:
Duty to Serve on Active Duty
1. Male citizens of military service age are obliged to serve on active duty in the People's Army.
2. Female citizens of military service age during peacetime can serve on active duty if they volunteer and the military has demands.
Thus, according to the above provisions, male citizens must perform military service within the stipulated age. In other words, this is a mandatory duty for male citizens.
For female citizens, the Military Service Law 2015 extends the provision, allowing female citizens of the stipulated age, if willing and the military has demands, to join the army. This provision does not mandate female citizens of military service age to enlist. Female citizens during peacetime volunteer to enlist and are accepted by the state.
- The age for enlistment is currently stipulated in Clause 1, Article 4 of Circular 148/2018/TT-BQP as follows:
+ Citizens from full 18 years old to the end of 25 years old.
+ Male citizens who are receiving higher education or university education and have had their enlistment deferred during one course of study can be selected and called up to the end of 27 years old.

Based on Article 33 of the Military Service Law 2015 stipulating the number of times and timing for calling citizens for military service and participating in the People's Public Security Force annually as follows:

Annually, citizens are called to join the military service and participate in the People's Public Security Force once in February or March; in exceptional cases due to defense or security reasons, citizens may be called to join the military service and participate in the People's Public Security Force a second time. Thus, according to the aforementioned provision, the military service schedule for 2024 will be carried out once in February or March 2024. In special cases due to defense or security reasons, citizens may be called to join the military service and participate in the People's Public Security Force a second time.
Citizens need to rely on the enlistment order from their locality to comply with the enlistment timing accurately.
