Fire extinguishers in Vietnam must discharge no more than 10s for liquefied extinguishants, and not more than 60s for non-liquefied gases according to TCVN 12314-2:2022?
What are the general requirements for Fire extinguishers in Vietnam?
According to Section 4.1 of the National Standard TCVN 12314-2:2022 on Fire prevention - Automatically activated Fire extinguishers in Vietnam - Part 2: Extinguishers specify:
"4.1 General Requirements
4.1.1 Gas cylinders when tested in accordance with Annex B shall meet the following requirements:
4.1.1.1 The extinguishant shall be effectively released immediately after the extinguishing device is activated. Discharge time shall not exceed 10 s for liquefied extinguishant, and not more than 60 s for non-liquefied extinguishant.
4.1.1.2 The discharge efficiency of the extinguishing gas must be at least 95% of the gas contained in the tank.
4.1.1.3 The test n-heptane cups shall be extinguished within 30 s of the end of extinguishant discharge. The maximum protected area is determined according to the results of the test in accordance with annex B.
4.1.2 Gas cylinders must ensure automatic operation according to the test in Annex C, specifically as follows:
4.1.2.1 The automatic fire extinguisher installed in the test model shall trigger the release of the gas within 90 s after igniting the fire. Determine the maximum mounting height according to the results of the test in accordance with Annex C.
4.1.2.2 Gas cylinders, cylinder head valve assembly are not deformed or damaged. Extinguisher does not leak before the temperature sensor operates.
4.1.2.3 The safety valve is not activated.
4.1.3 The amount of extinguishant used must ensure the extinguishing concentration, and at the same time do not exceed the concentration that can be dangerous to people specified in the corresponding parts of ISO 14520.
4.1.4 In case there are many cylinders connected together, the requirements for air discharge time and discharge efficiency must be satisfied as specified in 4.1.1.
Note: Gas cylinders of the same specification can be connected to each other to ensure effective fire fighting for a protected area.
4.1.5 The gas tank or valve assembly must be equipped with a safety pressure relief valve. The safety valve must operate at a pressure of 1.1 to 1.3 times the maximum working pressure of the gas cylinder (Q).
NOTE: Q - the maximum working pressure of the cylinder, which is the pressure of the cylinder at the working temperature of the sensor, determined according to the temperature/pressure graph for the extinguishing gases. (specified in the respective sections of TCVN 7161).
4.2 Gas tank
Gas cylinders must meet the requirements specified in 6.1 and 6.2 of this standard.
Gas tanks must be equipped with gauges indicating the pressure of the intake air in the tank.
Gas cylinders every 5 years must be checked and re-tested according to the provisions of 6.1 and 6.2 of this standard.
4.3 Extinguishing gas
4.3.1 Technical characteristics of extinguishing gas
Extinguishing gas must comply with the provisions stated in the respective parts of TCVN 7161.
4.3.2 Amount of extinguishing gas
The amount of extinguishant used for the fire fighting area must be calculated according to the concentration specified for different types of fire as specified in the corresponding parts of TCVN 7161.
The mass of the extinguisher gas container (including extinguishant and compressed air) shall be between -2% and 5% of the declared mass on the label.
4.3.3 Load density
The filling density of the container shall not exceed the values specified in the respective parts of ENGLISH.
4.4 Valve assembly
The valve assembly shall not leak or suffer any permanent deformation when tested in accordance with 6.3.1 and 6.3.2 of this standard.
4.5 Heat sensor unit
4.5.1 Heat sensing elements have the following forms: Using a fusible element sprinkler or a glass bulb element. The temperature sensor and valve assembly can be monolithic or assembled, but must be sure and leak-free at the mounting position."
Thus, the Vietnamese standard for fire extinguishers must discharge the gas no more than 10s for liquefied gas, and not more than 60s for non-liquefied gas
Fire extinguishers in Vietnam must discharge no more than 10s for liquefied extinguishants, and not more than 60s for non-liquefied gases according to TCVN 12314-2:2022?
What is the Vietnamese standard on the working temperature of a Fire extinguishers in Vietnam?
According to Section 4.2 of the National Standard TCVN 12314-2:2022 on Fire prevention - Automatically activated Fire extinguishers in Vietnam - Part 2: Extinguishers specify:
- Working temperature:
The temperature sensor must operate within the temperature range t = I ± (0.035I+ 0.62)°C
where I is the nominal operating temperature of the thermal sensor.
The nominal working temperature of the sensing element shall be in accordance with Table 1 .

What are the Vietnamese standards on pressure gauges for Fire extinguishers in Vietnam?
According to Section 4.2 of the National Standard TCVN 12314-2:2022 on Fire prevention - Automatically activated Fire extinguishers in Vietnam - Part 2: Extinguishers specify:
"4.6 Pressure gauge
Automatically activated fire extinguishers must be fitted with a pressure indicator to display the intake air pressure in the tank.
The maximum working pressure of the meter shall be in the range of 1.5 to 2.5 times the nominal pressure of the cylinder."
The above are some general requirements for fire extinguishers in 2022 according to TCVN 12314-2: 2022.
