Exam dates, exam schedules, exam content, exam forms, and duration of exams per subject
1. Exam dates and schedules: Defined in the annual guidelines for organizing the High School Graduation Exam issued by the Ministry of Education and Training.
2. Exam content: The exam content is within the high school program, primarily focusing on the 12th grade curriculum.
3. Exam form: Mathematics, Foreign Languages, Natural Sciences (NS), and Social Sciences (SS) exams will be in the form of multiple-choice tests (collectively referred to as multiple-choice exams); the Literature exam will be in the form of essay writing (collectively referred to as essay exams).
4. Duration of exams per subject: Literature 120 minutes; Mathematics 90 minutes; Foreign Languages 60 minutes; 50 minutes for each component subject in the NS and SS combination exams.
Thus, according to the aforementioned regulations, the duration of exams for each subject in the 2023 National High School Graduation Exam is as follows:
- Literature: 120 minutes;
- Mathematics: 90 minutes;
- English: 60 minutes;
- Combination exam: 50 minutes for each subject within the combined exam.

Who is exempt from all exams in the 2023 National High School Graduation Exam?
Based on the regulations in Article 36 of the High School Graduation Exam Regulations issued along with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT, the following groups of individuals are exempt from all exams in the 2023 National High School Graduation Exam:
- Individuals selected for the national team to participate in international or regional culture Olympiads are exempt from all exams of the High School Graduation Exam if they meet the following conditions:
+ Selected in the second semester of the 12th grade;
+ Achieving good conduct and academic performance of at least fairly good throughout the 12th grade;
+ Listed in the exemption list of the Ministry of Education and Training.
- Members of the national team participating in international or regional science-technical or cultural-artistic Olympiads are exempt from all exams of the High School Graduation Exam if they meet the following conditions:
+ Selected in the second semester of the 12th grade;
+ Achieving at least average conduct and academic performance throughout the 12th grade;
+ Listed in the official exemption request and confirmation of training and competition participation from the selecting body submitted to the Department of Education and Training before the High School Graduation Exam.
- Individuals with severe disabilities or major disabilities, individuals involved in resistance activities affected by chemical toxins reducing labor capacity by 61% or more, and children of individuals involved in resistance activities affected by chemical toxins reducing labor capacity by 61% or more, must meet the following conditions:
+ For individuals with disabilities following the general education program: Completed the high school program; eligible to take the exam; have a disability certification issued by a competent authority;
+ For individuals with disabilities unable to follow the general education program: Confirmation of the individual's educational plan outcomes for each year at the high school level by the high school principal where they are enrolled; have a disability certification issued by a competent authority;
+ For individuals involved in resistance activities, children of individuals involved in resistance activities affected by chemical toxins: Completed the high school program; eligible to take the exam; have a certification of being affected by chemical toxins and labor capacity reduction by 61% or more issued by a competent authority.
