Ketamine is a synthetic narcotic substance with dissociative properties that stimulate the central nervous system. It appears as a white powder or tablet and its scientific name is (±)-2-(2-Chlorophenyl)-2-methylaminocyclohexanone, with the CAS information code of 6740-88-1.

This substance is classified among the narcotic substances allowed for research, examination, assessment, criminal investigation, or use in the fields of healthcare, veterinary science as stipulated by the competent authority in the Appendix issued with Decree 57/2022/ND-CP.

Thus, in essence, Ketamine is considered a narcotic substance. However, Ketamine is not absolutely prohibited and is still used in research, testing, assessment, criminal investigation, or in the fields of healthcare, veterinary science.
