What are regulations on contribution of teaching grade 5 Math in Vietnam?

Based on Section I, Appendix of the General Education Program for Math, promulgated with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the teaching of grade 5 Math has the following characteristics:

- In the general education program, Mathematics is a compulsory subject from grade 1 to grade 12.

The educational content of Mathematics is divided into two stages:

+ Basic Education Stage: Mathematics helps students systematically understand the most necessary mathematical concepts, principles, and rules for everyone, which serves as a foundation for further study at higher levels or application in daily life.

+ Career-oriented Education Stage: Mathematics helps students gain a relatively comprehensive view of mathematics, understand the role and applications of mathematics in practice, and related professions to provide students with a basis for career orientation, as well as the ability to explore mathematically related issues throughout life.

In addition to core educational content, each school year, students (especially those with a natural science and technology orientation) can choose to study some specialized topics.

These topics aim to enhance knowledge of mathematics, practical application skills of mathematical knowledge, and meet students' interests, needs, and career orientations.

The Mathematics curriculum in both education stages features a linear structure combined with "concentric spirals" (concentric, expanding, and progressively enhancing), around and integrating three knowledge strands: Numbers, Algebra and Some Elements of Calculus; Geometry and Measurement; Statistics and Probability.

Thus, the teaching of grade 5 Math is divided into 2 stages [1] Basic Education Stage; [2] Career-oriented Education Stage.

- Math at the primary level aims to help students achieve the following main objectives:

+ Contribute to forming and developing mathematical abilities with the required achievements: performing simple mental operations; posing and answering questions when reasoning and solving simple problems; selecting arithmetic operations and formulas to present and express (verbally or in writing) the contents, ideas, and ways of solving problems; using mathematical language combined with everyday language and body movements to express mathematical content in simple situations; using simple tools and means to perform simple math learning tasks.

- Acquire basic and essential initial mathematical knowledge and skills on:

+ Numbers and Operations: Natural numbers, fractions, decimal numbers, and arithmetic operations on those sets of numbers.

+ Geometry and Measurement: Observe, recognize, describe shapes and features (at a visual level) of some flat and solid shapes in practice; create simple geometric models; calculate some geometric quantities; develop spatial imagination; solve some practical problems related to Geometry and Measurement (with common measurement quantities).

+ Statistics and Probability: Some simple elements of statistics and probability; solving some practical problems involving some elements of statistics and probability.

- Along with other subjects and educational activities such as Ethics, Nature and Society, Experiential Activities, etc., contribute to helping students have initial knowledge about some occupations in society.
