What does the application for taking tests for issuing architecture practicing certificates in Vietnam include?
Pursuant to the provisions of Clause 6 Article 25 of Decree 85/2020/ND-CP as follows:

6. Any individual that wishes to register to take a test shall send a registration form according to the form provided in Appendix III hereof together with a copy of his/her training certificate to the agency that holds the test, whether online, by post, or in person.
Thus, the application for taking tests for issuing architecture practicing certificates in Vietnam includes:
- Registration form for taking tests for issuing architecture practicing certificates;
- A copy of the training certificate.
Applicants can send their applications to the agency that holds the test for architectural practice certificates by the following methods.
(1) Online;
(2) Via mail;
(3) Direct submission.
What are the regulations on contents and forms of tests for issuing architecture practicing certificates in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Article 25 of Decree 85/2020/ND-CP, a test shall be held every 06 months or irregularly held according to the actual requirements at a licensed test location.
Accordingly, the contents, forms, and results of tests for issuing architecture practicing certificates in Vietnam are specified as follows:
- The set of questions worth 100 points must conform to Clause 2, Article 26 of the Law on Architecture 2019 include:
+ 10 questions on professional experience, which are worth 40 points;
+ 05 questions on legal knowledge, which are worth 20 points;
+ 05 questions on specialized knowledge, which are worth 20 points;
+ 05 questions on the code of professional conduct of practicing architects, which are worth 20 points.
- Forms of a test for an architecture practicing certificate:
+ Individuals applying for an architecture practicing certificate for the first time shall take the test by completing a multiple choice test and oral questions. The oral test shall be conducted immediately after the result of the multiple choice test is announced. In this test, each individual is required to draw lots and then answer up to 04 questions about knowledge and application thereof to individuals’ practice of architecture in line with the set of questions mentioned in Clause 2 of this Article;
+ Individuals applying for re-issuance or renewal of their architecture practicing certificate shall take the test by completing a multiple choice test.
- Test results:
+ An organization or agency holding a test for architectural practicing certificates shall notify test results to individuals within 15 days after the date of the test; issue certificates of test results to individuals who pass the test.
- To pass the test, an individual must be awarded at least 70 points including 16 points for the legal knowledge section; for the remaining sections, such an individual must be awarded at least 50% of the points.
- The test results shall be valid for up to 12 months from the date of issuance of the certificate of test results. If the certificate of test results is lost, an application for re-issuance of the certificate shall be prepared.
What are the requirements for issuing architecture practicing certificates in Vietnam?
Pursuant to the provisions of Article 28 of the Law on Architecture 2019, the requirements for issuing architecture practicing certificates in Vietnam are as follows:
Requirements for issuance and renewal of architecture practicing certificates
1. Requirements for issuance of architecture practicing certificates shall be regulated as follows:
a) The intended applicant must hold a university or higher qualification in the architecture sector;
b) The intended applicant must have at least 3 years of experience acquired from previous involvement in providing architectural services or partnership with other self-employed practicing architects;
c) The intended applicant must successfully pass the test for eligibility to receive architecture practicing certificate.
2. Requirements for renewal of architecture practicing certificate shall be regulated as follows:
a) Architecture practicing certificate has expired;
b) Ongoing career development is guaranteed;
c) There is none of the violations against the rules of professional conduct for practicing architects.
3. Persons spending at least 10 successive years directly involving in exercising state management of architecture, taking university education or other higher training courses in the architecture sector, or directly practicing architecture will be granted exemption from the requirements prescribed in point c of clause 1 of this Article.
4. Persons winning national or international architecture awards can be exempted from the requirements prescribed in point b of clause 1 of this Article.
Thus, according to Clause 1, Article 28 of the Law on Architecture 2019, to be issued an architectural practicing certificate, the following 03 requirements must be met:
- The intended applicant must hold a university or higher qualification in the architecture sector;
- The intended applicant must have at least 3 years of experience acquired from previous involvement in providing architectural services or partnership with other self-employed practicing architects;
- The intended applicant must successfully pass the test for eligibility to receive an architecture practicing certificate.
