- To become a Senior Coach (Class I), one must first meet the standards regarding educational level, training, competency, and expertise:

+ Have a university degree or higher in a relevant field or major in the sports sector;

+ Have a certificate of training standards for public employee professional titles in the sports sector.

+ Master the directives and policies of the Communist Party, and state laws regarding sports and high-performance sports development;

+ Be knowledgeable about theories and methods of physical education, sports training doctrines; proficient and routinely update techniques, tactics, and developmental trends in technical and tactical aspects of sports in both national and international contexts;

+ Understand the knowledge of education studies, sports psychology, sports biomedical, nutrition, supplementary drugs, and doping prevention regulations in training and competition;

+ Master and apply correctly the competition rules of the sport; the organization and operational regulations of national and international sports federations;

+ Know how to provide first aid for athletes during training and sports competitions;

+ Have the ability to direct and organize cooperation with colleagues in professional activities to improve the quality of sports training work;

+ Have basic IT skills and the ability to use a foreign language or minority language for public employees working in minority areas as required by the work position.

To be promoted to the professional title of Senior Coach (Class I), the public employee applying for promotion must meet the following requirements:

- Have held the position of Principal Coach (Class II) or equivalent for at least 06 years. In case of equivalent positions, there must be at least 01 year (12 months) holding the position of Principal Coach (Class II) as of the deadline for submitting the application for the examination or promotion consideration;

- During the tenure as Principal Coach (Class II) or equivalent, must have directly trained and coached athletes to achieve at least one of the following achievements: medal at the Southeast Asian Games, ASEAN Para Games, Asian Games, Asian Para Games, Youth Olympic Games, Southeast Asian, Asian, world championship titles, or met the standards for participating in the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games.
