- Van Te Nghia Si Can Giuoc by Nguyen Dinh Chieu

- The Declaration of Independence by Ho Chi Minh

c) Compulsory Selection Works

- Vietnamese Folk Literature

+ Select at least 4 works representing 4 genres in the treasure of Vietnamese folktales: legends, fairy tales, fables, humorous stories

+ Select at least 3 folk songs on themes: homeland and country; love, family affection; people and society (lyrical or satirical)

+ Select at least 1 Vietnamese epic

+ Select at least 1 narrative poem of the Vietnamese ethnic minorities

+ Select at least 1 Cheo or Tuong drama script

- Vietnamese Written Literature, select at least 1 work from each of the following authors:

+ Nom poetry, argumentative literature by Nguyen Trai

+ Chinese poetry by Nguyen Du

+ Nom poetry by Ho Xuan Huong

+ Nom poetry by Nguyen Dinh Chieu

+ Nom poetry by Nguyen Khuyen

+ Stories and poems by Nguyen Ai Quoc - Ho Chi Minh

+ Short stories, novels by Nam Cao

+ Novels, reportage by Vu Trong Phung

+ Poems by Xuan Dieu prior to the August Revolution

+ Poems by To Huu before and after the August Revolution

+ Short stories, essays by Nguyen Tuan

+ Plays by Nguyen Huy Tuong

+ Plays by Luu Quang Vu

- Foreign Literature, select at least 1 work for each of the following literary traditions: English, French, American, Greek, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Indian.

What are the criteria for selecting folk literature works according to the Literature General Education Program in Vietnam?

According to Subsection 1.3, Item 1, Section 5 of the Literature General Education Program issued along with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, folk literature works are one form of "materials." The criteria for selecting general materials and folk literature works specifically are as follows:

In the Literature subject, materials are a constituent part of the educational content, significantly contributing to shaping and developing the qualities and competencies specified in the program.

The program only provides guidelines on the types of texts and genres taught in each grade; for primary level, the length of the text is specified.

To meet the requirements of shaping and developing qualities and competencies for students, the selected materials must meet the following criteria:

- Directly serve the development of qualities and competencies according to the objectives and requirements of the program.

- Suit the experience, cognitive abilities, and psycho-physiological characteristics of students in each grade, and each level of education.

The vocabularies used in teaching language at the primary level must be selected from cultural vocabularies with positive meanings, ensuring the goals of educational qualities, language education, aesthetic education, and suitable for students' psychology.

- Have distinctive values in terms of content and artistry, representative of text types and genres, standard, and creative in language.

- Reflect achievements in thought, literature, and national culture; express patriotism, national independence, awareness of national sovereignty; promote humanistic values, kindness, tolerance, love for the good, love of nature, the spirit of international integration, and towards universal human values.

The program provides an open orientation on materials.

However, to ensure the core educational content is consistent nationwide, alongside the suggested texts that textbook authors and teachers can choose from, the program specifies some compulsory texts and compulsory selection texts.
