What are included in the 1st-grade textbook list in Vietnam?
*Note: Regulations on standards, compilation, and revision processes of textbooks, standards for organizations and individuals compiling textbooks; organization and activities of the National Textbook Evaluation Council were issued along with Circular 33/2017/TT-BGDDT (abbreviated as Regulations issued along with Circular 33/2017/TT-BGDDT).
According to Clause 1, Article 2 of the Regulations issued along with Circular 33/2017/TT-BGDDT, textbooks are publications that concretize the requirements of the general education program; approved by the Minister of Education and Training, allowed to be used as official teaching materials in general education institutions.
The list of 1st-grade textbooks used in general education institutions for the 2024-2025 school year has been specifically approved and issued by the Ministry of Education and Training along with Decision 512/QD-BGDDT 2020 and Decision 4507/QD-BGDDT 2019.
The complete list of first-grade textbooks for the 2024-2025 school year includes:

- The content of textbooks must accurately and comprehensively reflect the curriculum of the subjects or educational activities; ensuring fundamental, scientific, practical, and relevant to the reality in Vietnam.
- Terms, concepts, definitions, data, events, and images must be accurate, objective, consistent, and appropriate to students' levels; data, events, images must have clear origins.
- New scientific achievements related to the curriculum subjects or educational activities must be updated to meet the requirements of international integration and comply with the objectives of the curriculum subjects or educational activities.
- Educational contents about national sovereignty, human rights, children's rights, gender equality, sustainable development, environmental protection, and climate change adaptation must be reasonably presented.

What is the age for first-grade students in Vietnam?
Based on Article 33 of the Regulations on Primary Schools issued along with Circular 28/2020/TT-BGDDT, the age of primary school students is regulated as follows:
Age of Primary School Students
1. The age for students entering grade one is 06 years old, calculated as per the year. Children with disabilities, children with physical or intellectual developmental delay, children in regions with exceptionally difficult socio-economic conditions, ethnic minority children, orphans without support, children returning from abroad, children of foreigners studying or working in Vietnam may enter first grade at an older age than prescribed but not more than 03 years. Cases where children enter first grade more than 03 years older than the prescribed age will be decided by the head of the Department of Education and Training.
2. Primary school students learning at an older age than the prescribed age in cases of repeating a grade, students in regions with exceptional socio-economic difficulties, ethnic minority students, students with disabilities, students with physical or intellectual developmental delays, orphans without support, children returning from abroad, or other cases as regulated by the law.
Thus, according to the above regulations, children aged 06 will enter first grade (the age is calculated per the year). However, the age for entering first grade can be older than 06 years but not more than 03 years for children in the following categories:
- Children with disabilities, children with physical or intellectual developmental delays.
- Children in regions with exceptionally difficult socio-economic conditions.
- Ethnic minority children, orphans without support.
- Children returning from abroad, children of foreigners studying or working in Vietnam.
Cases where children enter first grade more than 03 years older than the prescribed age will be decided by the head of the Department of Education and Training.
