What is the Associate Degree in Web Design?

According to Subsection 1 of Section A, Part 6 of the Regulations on Minimum Knowledge Volume, Competency Requirements Required After Graduation at Intermediate and Associate Degree Levels for Majors and Occupations in the Field of Computers and Information Technology (hereinafter referred to as the Regulations) issued with Circular 44/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, the Web Design major is prescribed as follows:

General Introduction About the Major and Occupation

The associate degree in Web Design is a profession that builds and develops web applications (websites) that operate on internet and intranet platforms, meeting level 5 requirements in the Vietnamese National Qualification Framework.

The Web Design profession performs the following tasks: Web Graphic Design, Web Interface Design, Web Interface Programming, Web Application Development, Web Application Testing, and Website Administration:

- Web Graphic Design involves sketching, designing web pages, searching, and processing images using graphic tools;

- Web Interface Design involves converting web graphic interfaces into web interfaces by using web languages such as HyperText Markup Language (HTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), libraries, and web interface design frameworks;

- Web Interface Programming involves scripting (scripting code) on browsers to animate components on the web page, control user behavior, interact with web services (also known as Web API), and present data to users;

- Web Application Development involves receiving the web interface from the web interface programming department to convert it into a complete website system interacting with the database using web programming technologies (such as Java, .NET, PHP...) or using open-source content management systems (WordPress, Joomla...). Additionally, web server-side programming creates Web APIs to serve various types of applications such as mobile applications, IoT devices (Internet of Things), etc.;

- Web Application Testing involves finding bugs in web applications before the product is released. It requires comprehensive knowledge of the form, aesthetics, links, resources, related to server environment, browser, accessing device. This job requires test planning, creating test cases, building test data sets, performing tests, and writing reports for programmers and designers for corrections;

- Website Administration involves ensuring the web application system operates smoothly. This includes installing the appropriate operating system environment, and databases, planning system development, managing the database, deploying the application on the network, maintaining, and upgrading the application, backing up and restoring data, and ensuring system security (preventing viruses, unauthorized access, encrypting data).

- Minimum Knowledge Volume: 2,500 hours (equivalent to 90 credits).

Thus, the associate degree in Web Design is a profession that builds and develops web applications (websites) that operate on internet and intranet platforms. The associate degree in Web Design meets level 5 requirements in the Vietnamese National Qualification Framework.

The Web Design associate degree profession performs the following tasks:

- Web Graphic Design;- Web Interface Design;- Web Interface Programming;- Web Application Development;- Web Application Testing and Website Administration.

The minimum knowledge volume of the Web Design major is 2,500 hours (equivalent to 90 credits).

- Web Graphic Design;- Web Interface Design;- Web Interface Programming;- Web Application Development;- Website Administration;- Web Application Testing.

What skills must collage graduates in web design have in Vietnam?

According to Subsection 3 of Section A, Part 6 of the Regulations issued with Circular 44/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, students majoring in Web Design must possess the following skills after graduation:

- Be able to use basic information technology as prescribed;- Set up a suitable environment for web server;- Identify the necessary tools for building a web application;- Use open-source systems to develop web applications;- Handle incidents occurring during web system operation;- Choose backup and data recovery methods to ensure system availability;- Choose mechanisms to ensure data security;- Read and understand specialized English documents;- Communicate through writing, presenting, discussing, and negotiating;- Collaborate with colleagues, customers, and partners;- Use basic foreign language, achieving level 2/6 in the Vietnamese Foreign Language Competency Framework; apply foreign language to professional work in the industry and partially understand technical English in information technology.
