According to the provisions in Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019 regarding specific holidays as follows:
Holidays
- Employees are entitled to take leave with full pay on the following holidays and Tet:
a) New Year's Day: 01 day (January 1 in the Gregorian calendar);
b) Lunar New Year: 05 days;
c) Victory Day: 01 day (April 30 in the Gregorian calendar);
d) International Labor Day: 01 day (May 1 in the Gregorian calendar);
dd) National Day: 02 days (September 2 in the Gregorian calendar and 01 adjacent day before or after);
e) Hung Kings' Commemoration Day: 01 day (March 10 in the lunar calendar).
- Foreign employees working in Vietnam are entitled to one additional traditional national holiday and one additional National Day of their home country aside from the holidays specified in Clause 1 of this Article.
- Annually, based on actual conditions, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam shall decide specific holidays for the provisions at Points b and d, Clause 1 of this Article.
October 20 is not a public holiday, so primary teachers will not have a day off. Therefore, primary students will not be off from school on October 20.
However, October 20, 2024, falls on a Sunday, so students will not need to attend school.
What are purpose and requirements for assessment of primary students in Vietnam?
(1) Purpose of Assessment
According to Article 3 of the Regulation on Assessment of primary students issued together with Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT, the purpose when teachers assess primary students is to provide accurate, prompt information to determine learning achievements and training in line with the requirements of the elementary education program, and the progress of students to guide learning activities, adjust teaching activities to enhance educational quality. Specifically:
- Help teachers adjust and innovate organizational forms and educational methods during teaching; promptly discover students' efforts and progress to motivate, encourage and identify challenges yet to be overcome by students to guide and assist, enhancing the quality and effectiveness of students' learning and training; contribute to achieving elementary education goals.
- Help students develop self-assessment skills; actively participate in self-assessment; self-study, self-adjust learning methods; communicate and collaborate; cultivate an interest in learning and self-improvement.
- Help parents or guardians (hereinafter referred to as parents) engage in evaluating the process and results of learning, training, and the development of students' virtues and competencies; actively cooperate with schools in educational activities.
- Assist educational administrators at all levels to promptly direct educational activities, innovate teaching methods, and assessment methods to achieve effective education.
- Enable social organizations to grasp accurate, objective information, leveraging social resources for educational development investment.
(2) Requirements for Assessment
Based on Article 4 of the Regulation on Assessment of primary students issued together with Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT, the evaluation of primary students must meet the following requirements:
- Evaluate students based on their level of meeting desired outcomes and specific manifestations of each subject's competencies, educational activities, and students' visible qualities, according to the requirements of the elementary education program.
- Conduct regular assessments through comments, periodic evaluations using scores combined with comments; combine assessments from teachers, students, and parents, with teacher assessments being the most crucial.
- Evaluate progress and aim to foster students' advances; emphasize the motivation, encouragement of students' efforts in learning and training; help students maximize their abilities and potential; ensure promptness, fairness, objectivity; do not compare students to one another, and avoid placing pressure on students, teachers, and parents.
