What is the significance of Southern Resistance Day on September 23 in Vietnam?
The Southern Resistance Day on September 23 holds significant historical importance as one of the proud pages in the history of the Vietnamese nation.
September 23, 1945 (Southern Resistance Day) was the beginning of the prolonged resistance of the Vietnamese nation against the French colonial invasion.
Only 21 days after the country achieved independence, the French colonials aimed to invade our country once more. On September 23, 1945, they fired their guns to attack Saigon, initiating the second war of invasion. However, under the leadership of the Vietnam Communist Party and President Ho Chi Minh, the soldiers and people of the Southern region unanimously rose up to firmly fight against the French colonial invaders.
Therefore, this day in 2024 is commemorated as the 79th anniversary of the Southern Resistance Day (September 23, 1945 - September 23, 2024).
