CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SUBJECT
The subject of National Defense and Security Education plays a key role in educating citizens about their consciousness and responsibility in fulfilling the tasks of building a comprehensive national defense and people's security. It contributes to instilling patriotism, love for socialism, and nurturing national pride and self-respect among students. Alongside other subjects and educational activities, it helps to develop in students the qualities and general capacities prescribed in the overall curriculum, forming the ability to perceive issues of national defense and security and applying learned knowledge to life.
At the primary and secondary levels, national defense and security education is integrated through the content of subjects in the curriculum, combined with extracurricular activities suitable for the age, ensuring students form an initial understanding of the national tradition of establishing and defending the country, about the people's armed forces, and the sense of discipline, solidarity, patriotism and love for fellow citizens.
At the upper secondary level, it is a core subject, ensuring students have a basic understanding of comprehensive national defense, people's security, the tradition of resisting foreign invaders, the people's armed forces, and Vietnamese military arts. Students acquire fundamental and necessary knowledge about civil defense and military skills, ready to perform military service to protect the Nation.
Thus, according to the above regulations, the subject of National Defense and Security Education at the upper secondary level plays a crucial role in educating citizens about awareness and responsibility in fulfilling the tasks of building a comprehensive national defense and people's security. The National Defense and Security Education curriculum is built on the following perspectives:
1. Inheritance and Modernity
The curriculum is constructed based on the perspectives, policies, and strategies of the Communist Party, State law on the Strategy of Defending the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. It is developed on the foundation of theoretical and practical experiences of ancestral traditions in defending the country, Vietnamese military art, and updated achievements in modern military science and military pedagogy.
2. Development of Qualities, General Capacities, and Specific Capacities
The curriculum clearly defines the qualities and capacities that can be formed and developed in students through the subject: on one hand, it relies on the requirements for attaining qualities and capacities as a foundation and starting point for selecting educational content; on the other, it forms and develops key qualities, core capacities in students by guiding them to absorb and apply the subject's content to reality.
3. Practice and Practicality
The curriculum emphasizes practice, exercise, and application as essential content and an effective, practical method for developing students' qualities and capacities. This content focuses on the application of national defense, security knowledge, and skills into practice to contribute to developing the specific capacities of the National Defense and Security Education subject.
4. National and Humanitarian Values
