What is the formula Δ' according to Mathematics curriculum in Vietnam?
Δ' is a part of the general formula for solving quadratic equations. It is used to determine the number of solutions of an equation more quickly and conveniently than using the full delta calculation.
Formula for Calculating Δ'
For a quadratic equation in the form: ax² + bx + c = 0 (with a ≠ 0)
Δ' is calculated using the formula:
Δ' = (b/2)² - ac |
*Meaning of the Δ' Formula
Δ' > 0: The equation has two distinct solutions.
Δ' = 0: The equation has a double root.
Δ' < 0: The equation has no solution.
*Example
Solve the equation: 2x² - 5x + 3 = 0
Step 1: Identify the coefficients: a = 2, b = -5, c = 3.
Step 2: Calculate Δ':
Δ' = (-5/2)² - 2*3 = 25/4 - 6 = 1/4
Step 3: Conclusion:
Since Δ' > 0, the equation has two distinct solutions.

What are the objectives in Mathematics at the primary school level in Vietnam?
According to subsection 2, Section 3 of the Mathematics Education Program issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDĐT, the objectives that primary school students need to achieve in mathematics are as follows:
- Contribute to the formation and development of mathematical competence with the following requirements: perform thinking operations at a simple level; ask and answer questions when reasoning and solving simple problems; choose arithmetic operations and formulas to present and express (orally or in writing) contents, ideas, and ways of solving problems; use mathematical language combined with ordinary language, physical gestures to convey mathematical content in simple situations; use simple tools and means for learning mathematics to execute simple math learning tasks.
- Possess initial, essential fundamental mathematical knowledge and skills about:
+ Numbers and Calculations: Natural numbers, fractions, decimals, and operations on these sets of numbers.
+ Geometry and Measurement: Observe, identify, describe the shape and characteristics (at an intuitive level) of some planar and solid shapes in reality; establish some simple geometric models; calculate some geometric quantities; develop spatial imagination; solve some practical problems associated with Geometry and Measurement (with common measurement units).
+ Statistics and Probability: Some basic statistical and probability elements; solve some practical problems associated with basic statistics and probability elements.
- Along with other subjects and educational activities such as Ethics, Nature and Society, Experiential Activities,... contribute to helping students have an initial understanding of some professions in society.
