* Vietnamese Language Knowledge
- Vietnamese alphabet, the differences between letter names (a, bê, xê,...) and sounds (a, bờ, cờ,...)
- Vocabulary by theme
- Words indicating objects, activities, qualities
- The uses of period, question mark, exclamation mark: marking the end of a sentence; comma: separating the components in the sentence
- Dialogue: listening, speaking in turn
- Paragraphs
+ Paragraphs recounting an event
+ Short and simple descriptive paragraphs based on suggestions
+ Paragraphs expressing one's feelings towards loved ones
+ Paragraphs introducing animals, objects; instructional texts for an activity, postcards, lists, book indexes, class schedules, timetables
- Information through images (non-verbal communication)
* Literary Knowledge
- Topic (what is written or told about)
- Shape, gesture, and dialogue of characters
- Emotions and attitudes between characters
- Rhyme in poetry
Furthermore, the educational materials for Vietnamese language for 2nd grade students include:
(1) Literary Texts
- Fairy tales, fables, short stories; descriptive text excerpts (essays)
- Poems, rhymes, folk songs, chants
Text length: stories around 180 - 200 words, descriptive essays around 150 - 180 words, poems around 70 - 90 words.
(2) Informational Texts
- Texts introducing animals, tools; instructional texts for a simple activity including symbols
- Student lists; book indexes; class schedules; timetables
Text length: around 110 - 140 words.

Who has the authority to select Vietnamese language textbooks for 2nd grade students?
According to Clause 1, Article 32 of the Education Law 2019, textbooks for general education are as follows:
General Education Textbooks
1. General education textbooks are stipulated as follows:
a) Textbooks implement the general education program, specifying the requirements of the general education program regarding objectives, educational content, requirements for students' qualities and capabilities; guidelines for teaching methods and ways of testing and evaluating educational quality; the content and format of textbooks do not carry ethnic, religious, occupational, gender, age, or social position prejudices; textbooks are presented in printed books, Braille books, and electronic books;
b) Each subject has one or more textbooks; private investment is implemented in textbook compilation; the publication of textbooks is carried out according to legal provisions;
c) Provincial People's Committees decide on the selection of textbooks for stable use in educational institutions within their locality according to the regulations of the Minister of Education and Training;
d) Local educational materials are compiled by provincial People's Committees to meet local needs and characteristics, reviewed by the provincial appraisal council, and approved by the Minister of Education and Training.
