What is the cell theory? What are contents and significance of the cell theory?
The Cell Theory is a scientific theory intended to describe the properties of cells as well as explain the origin of life, which originates from cells. Cells are the fundamental unit in the structure of all organisms and also the most basic unit of life.
The Cell Theory was first introduced in 1838–1839 by two German scientists, Matthias Schleiden and Theodor Schwann. Subsequently, this theory was developed and perfected by other scientists such as Rudolf Virchow, Louis Pasteur, Robert Hooke, and Antonie van Leeuwenhoek.
The Cell Theory is one of the greatest discoveries in the natural sciences of the 19th century and forms the foundation for other biological sciences such as genetics, evolutionary biology, biochemistry, and physiology.
Content of the Cell Theory:
The foundational content of the Cell Theory includes the following three main points:
- All organisms are composed of one or more cells. These cells contain all the essential activities for the existence and development of the organism;
- A cell is considered the smallest structure that fully exhibits all the basic characteristics of life;
- Cells can only be derived from pre-existing cells.
Significance of the Cell Theory:
- The Cell Theory indicates the unified origin of the biological world, meaning all species of organisms share a common origin from the first cells that appeared on Earth.
- The Cell Theory underpins Darwin's theory of evolution, explaining the diversity and adaptability of organisms through natural selection and genetic variation.
- The Cell Theory opens a new field of research, cellular biology, exploring the structure, function, and interaction of components within a cell.

What are regulations on teaching methodology for Biology according to curriculum in Vietnam?
Based on the General Education Program in Biology issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the method of teaching Biology is carried out according to the following general orientations:
- Promote the proactivity, initiative, and creativity of students; avoid one-sided imposition and rote memorization; focus on nurturing self-reliance and self-study capabilities so that students can continue to explore and expand their knowledge, further develop the necessary qualities and capacities after graduating from upper secondary school.
- Train the skills to apply biological knowledge to detect and solve real-world issues; encourage and create opportunities for students to experience and innovate by organizing their participation in learning, exploring, and applying activities.
- Flexibly and creatively apply various teaching methods that are appropriate to educational objectives, content, student demographics, and specific conditions. Depending on the requirements to be achieved, teachers can coordinate multiple teaching methods within a single topic.
- Traditional teaching methods (lectures, dialogues, etc.) are used to promote the proactivity and initiative of students. Strengthen the use of modern teaching methods that emphasize the student's role as the subject of learning (practical teaching, problem-based learning, project-based teaching, experience-driven, exploration-driven learning; differentiated teaching, etc., along with appropriate teaching techniques).
- The forms of teaching are varied and flexible; combining individual learning, group learning, classroom learning, contract learning, flipped learning, online learning, etc. Enhance the application of information and communication technology in biology education. Value external sources beyond textbooks and the system of teaching equipment; fully exploit the advantages of information and communication technology in teaching through knowledge repositories, multimedia, strengthening the use of electronic resources (such as experimental films, virtual experiments, simulated experiments, etc.).
- Integrated teaching through topics that connect multiple pieces of knowledge. When teaching these topics, teachers need to construct situations that require students to apply knowledge and skills to address cognitive, practical, and technological issues.
What are educational programs and plans for secondary schools in Vietnam?
According to Article 17 of the Regulations on lower secondary schools, upper secondary schools, and multi-level Schools issued with Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDĐT, the educational programs and plans of lower secondary schools are stipulated as follows:
- lower secondary schools implement the general education program issued by the Minister of Education and Training; they execute the framework for the school year's schedule as regulated by the Ministry of Education and Training, suitable to the specific conditions of the locality and school.
- Based on the programs of subjects, educational activities in the general education program, the framework of the academic year, and the actual conditions of the locale, educational foundation, the school constructs its educational plan to organize and implement the general education program.
- Students with disabilities studying in inclusive settings are provided with a flexible educational plan appropriate to the individual's capabilities and the regulations on inclusive education for people with disabilities.
