What is the bus fare for students in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam?
Pursuant to Decision 1682/QD-SGTVT, (download) on the adjustment of bus fares applicable to subsidized bus routes as follows:
1. Single-trip ticket
a) Applicable to regular passengers:
- Bus routes with a distance of 15 km or less: flat fare of 5,000 VND/trip per passenger.
- Bus routes with a distance over 15 km to under 25 km: flat fare of 6,000 VND/trip per passenger.
- Bus routes with a distance of 25 km or more: flat fare of 7,000 VND/trip per passenger.
b) Applicable to students:
- Flat fare for a single trip: 3,000 VND/trip per passenger. Students, when boarding the bus, must present their student ID card or other relevant documents as proof.
- In the event that students do not present their student ID card or other relevant documents as proof, they will still buy tickets as regular passengers.
2. Prepaid tickets (or annual tickets):
- Corresponding to the fare of 5,000 VND/trip per passenger: the annual ticket price is 112,500 VND/1 pack of 30 tickets.
- Corresponding to the fare of 6,000 VND/trip per passenger: the annual ticket price is 135,000 VND/1 pack of 30 tickets.
- Corresponding to the fare of 7,000 VND/trip per passenger: the annual ticket price is 157,500 VND/1 pack of 30 tickets.
- Specific bus fare table on subsidized bus routes (Attached to Decision 1682/QD-SGTVT dated April 13, 2019 of the Department of Transport).
3. Regarding subsidized bus fares on bus routes No. 13, 94, 96: no adjustment of single-trip fares, only adjustment of annual tickets for students, specifically:
- Flat fare for a single trip 10,000 VND/trip per passenger.
- Annual ticket price for students: 135,000 VND/1 pack of 30 tickets.
4. Details on increased fares for each route
- Routes with a distance of 15km or less (fare 5,000 VND/trip): 01, 02, 11, 54, 57, 78, 85, 86, 144, 152.
- Routes with a distance over 15km to under 25km (fare 6,000 VND/trip): 03, 04, 07, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20, 22, 23, 25, 27, 29, 31, 34, 36, 38, 39, 41, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 61, 62, 64, 65, 66, 68, 69, 72, 73, 74, 77, 81, 84, 87, 88, 89, 91, 93, 99, 100, 101, 103, 107, 110, 122, 126, 127, 128, 139, 140, 141, 145, 146, 148, 151.
- Routes with a distance of 25km or more (fare 7,000 VND/trip): 06, 08, 09, 10, 19, 24, 28, 30, 32, 33, 50, 53, 55, 70, 71, 76, 79, 90, 102, 104, 150.
Therefore, according to the above decision, the bus fare for students in Ho Chi Minh City is as follows:
- Flat fare for a single trip: 3,000 VND/trip per passenger. Students, when boarding the bus, must present their student ID card or other relevant documents as proof.
- In the event that students do not present their student ID card or other relevant documents as proof, they will still buy tickets as regular passengers.

Based on Article 4 of the Regulations on student affairs for full-time undergraduate training programs promulgated together with Circular 10/2016/TT-BGDDT defining the duties of students:
- Comply with the policies and guidelines of the Communist Party, the laws of the State, the regulations and rules of the higher education institutions.
- Study, train according to the program, and education plan of the higher education institution; proactively and actively self-study, research, innovate, and train in ethics and lifestyle.
- Respect educators, administrative staff, public employees, and employees of higher education institutions; unite and help each other in the process of studying and training; properly implement cultural customs in the school environment.
- Maintain and protect properties; act in a way that contributes to protecting, building, and promoting the traditions of the higher education institution.
- Fulfill the requirements for health check-ups at the beginning of the course and periodic health check-ups during the study period as regulated by the higher education institution.
- Fully and timely pay tuition fees and health insurance.
- Participate in community service labor, volunteer activities, and social activities suitable to capabilities and health as requested by the higher education institution.
- Fulfill the obligation to work for a limited time as directed by the State when receiving scholarships or training costs funded by the State or foreign sponsorship under agreements signed with the State, if failing to comply must compensate the scholarship, training costs as prescribed by the Government of Vietnam.
- Participate in preventing and combating negative behavior, fraud in studying, taking exams, and other student activities; promptly report to faculties, functional departments, the head of the higher education institution, or competent authorities when discovering negative behavior, fraud in studying, taking exams, or violations of the law, other internal rules, regulations of students, staff, or teachers within the higher education institution.
- Engage in ensuring security and order, traffic safety, crime prevention, and social evil prevention in schools, families, and communities.
- Perform other related duties as prescribed by the law and the higher education institution.
Thus, according to the above regulation, maintaining and protecting the university’s property is one of the duties of students when participating in study at the school.
