Students are required to take the mandatory papers of Literature and Mathematics and select 02 additional papers from those available in grade 12 (Foreign Language, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economic and Legal Education, Informatics, Technology).
Thus, the 2+2 examination method for the High School Graduation Exam 2025 will include 2 mandatory papers and 2 elective papers.

What are the regulations on bonus points for candidates taking the High School Graduation Exam in Vietnam?
According to Article 47 of the Draft Circular Issuing the Regulation on High School Graduation Exams download:
Learners participating in the following competitions and activities during their upper secondary education period are awarded bonus points for graduation recognition:
[1] Winning individual prizes in competitions for outstanding students: First, second, or third prize in national competitions or first prize at the provincial level awards 2.0 points; incentive prizes in national contests or second prize at the provincial level awards 1.5 points; third prize at the provincial level awards 1.0 point;
[2] Winning individual and team prizes in experimental practice competitions in Physics, Chemistry, Biology; cultural performances; sports; national defense education sports; scientific and technical contests; and international letter writing organized by the Education sector in cooperation with specialized agencies from the provincial level onwards.
- For individual prizes: National first, second, or third prize or provincial first prize or Gold Medal awards 2.0 points; national incentive award or fourth prize in a national scientific competition or provincial second prize or Silver Medal awards 1.5 points; provincial third prize or Bronze Medal awards 1.0 point.
- For team prizes: Points are awarded only for national team prizes; the number of players, athletes, and performers of the team prize as specified by the Organizer; bonus points awarded to individuals in team competitions are implemented similarly to individual prizes as stipulated in this section.
[3] Learners achieving multiple prizes in various competitions/Contests are awarded the bonus points of the highest prize type only.
What are the regulations on priority points in the assessment for high school graduation recognition in Vietnam?
According to Article 43 of the Draft Circular Issuing the Regulation on High School Graduation Exams download:
[1] Graduation recognition is categorized into 3 groups: Group 1, Group 2, and Group 3; Group 1 are regular candidates not receiving priority points; Group 2 and Group 3 candidates receive priority points.
[2] Group 2: An addition of 0.25 points is granted to candidates belonging to one of the following categories:
- War invalids, sick soldiers, persons entitled to policies equivalent to war invalids with a reduced labor capacity of less than 81% (for continuing education);
- Children of war invalids, sick soldiers, persons entitled to policies equivalent to war invalids with a reduced labor capacity of less than 81%; Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, Labor Heroes; children of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers; children of Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, Labor Heroes;
- Ethnic minorities;
- Kinh people, foreign nationals residing in Vietnam with permanent residence during their upper secondary education for 03 years or more in specially difficult communes, border communes, safe area communes eligible for investment under Program 135 according to Decision 135/1998/QD-TTg (calculated from the time these communes completed Program 135); specially difficult coastal and island communes; communes on Regions I, II, III and particularly disadvantaged communes in ethnic minority areas and mountainous regions as per current regulations of the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam or Minister, Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs, attending schools not located in the districts of centrally-run cities for at least 2/3 of the high school study time;
- Persons affected by chemical toxins; children of those affected by chemical toxins; children of those who participated in resistance activities affected by chemical toxins; persons recognized by competent authorities as having deformities, disabilities, or reduced self-reliant capabilities in daily life or labor due to the consequences of chemical toxins;
- Aged 35 or older, as calculated by the exam date (for continuing education candidates).
[3] Group 3: An addition of 0.5 points is granted to candidates belonging to one of the following categories:
- Ethnic minorities with permanent residence during their upper secondary education for 03 years or more in particularly disadvantaged communes, border communes, safe area communes eligible for investment under Program 135 according to Decision 135/1998/QD-TTg (calculated from the time these communes completed Program 135); particularly disadvantaged coastal and island communes; communes on Regions I, II, III and particularly disadvantaged communes in ethnic minority areas and mountainous regions as per current regulations of the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam or Minister, Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs, attending boarding ethnic secondary schools or schools not located in the districts of centrally-run cities;
- War invalids, sick soldiers, persons entitled to policies equivalent to war invalids with a reduced labor capacity of 81% or more (for continuing education);
- Children of martyrs; children of war invalids, sick soldiers, persons entitled to policies equivalent to war invalids with a reduced labor capacity of 81% or more.
[4] Candidates with multiple priority criteria are awarded the highest applicable priority criteria.
[5] Other priority categories stipulated in existing legal documents will be subject to review and decision by the Minister of Education and Training.
