In Vietnam, what does local time mean?
Local time is the official time used in a specific geographical area. It is determined based on the location of that area on Earth in relation to the prime meridian (Greenwich).
Why is there local time?
Earth is spherical and rotates: Because Earth is spherical and rotates on its axis, each location on Earth receives sunlight at different times. To facilitate daily activities and work, each geographical area has established its own time, called local time.
Time zones: To manage time globally with ease, the Earth is divided into 24 time zones, each zone spanning 15 degrees of longitude. The local time of each place will differ by 1 hour from the adjacent time zone.
*Example:
Vietnam is in the UTC+7 time zone, meaning the local time in Vietnam is 7 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).
If it is 12 noon (UTC) in London (England), then in Hanoi (Vietnam) it would be 7 p.m. (UTC+7).
>>In summary:
Local time is the official time at a specific location, determined based on the geographical position of that place. Understanding local time helps us adjust time when communicating and working with people in different regions around the world.
