Additionally, university training based on credits is stipulated in Article 3 of the Regulations issued with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT which states that there are two methods of organizing university-level education: annual training and credit-based training.
University credit-based training is defined as follows:
- It is a method of organizing training based on each course, allowing students to accumulate credits for each course and complete the training program according to their individual study plan, in line with the teaching plan of the training institution;
- Students who fail a mandatory course must retake that course or take an equivalent course as specified in the training program, or take a substitute course if the original course is no longer offered;
- Students who fail an elective course must retake that course or may choose to take another elective course in accordance with the training program's regulations.
Also, according to Clause 2, Article 7 of the Regulations issued with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT, students who study based on credits must register for classes of the courses they intend to take during the semester, including: new courses, some courses not yet passed (for retakes) and some courses already passed (for grade improvement, if applicable) based on the list of available courses and the registration conditions of each course.
In reference to the regulations, university credit registration simply means that students studying on the credit system must register for classes of the courses they intend to take during the semester.
