Under section 5 of the General Education Program for Geography issued under Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the 12th-grade Geography curriculum is regulated as follows:
PRACTICE UNDERSTANDING LOCAL GEOGRAPHY
Practice understanding local Geography (province, centrally-governed city) under the following topics:
- Geographical location, territorial scope, and administrative division
- Present the geographical location, territorial scope, and administrative division of the province, centrally-governed city based on local maps, Vietnam or Vietnam Geography Atlas, and acquired knowledge.
- Nature and natural resources
- Population and society
- Economy
- Use maps, charts, diagrams, statistical data, etc., to analyze some outstanding features of nature, population - society, and economy of the locality.
- Collect materials, photographs, data, etc., to introduce local geography.
- Write reports introducing local geography under several topics.
Thus, according to the above regulations, 12th-grade students will learn about administrative division apart from geographical location and territorial scope.
What are the orientations to the education methods for 12th-grade Geography in Vietnam?
Under section 6 of the General Education Program for Geography issued under Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the orientations to the education methods for 12th-grade Geography in Vietnam are regulated as follows:
- Activate student activities; where teachers are organizers, guides, and encouragers, creating a friendly learning environment for students; students learn actively, positively, and creatively, focusing on self-study skills.
- Enhance experiential activities for students, linking geography lessons with local, national, and world realities; applying knowledge to solve environmental, and socio-economic issues locally, thus developing awareness, and skills, forming particular and general competencies.
- Diversify teaching methods, combine advanced teaching methods, and specific teaching methods of the subject such as: using maps, charts, statistical data, diagrams, photographs, models, observation, fieldwork, etc.; improve and use traditional teaching methods towards promoting activeness like: presentations, Q&A, etc.
- Implement various and flexible teaching organization forms, combining individual teaching, group teaching, class teaching; in-class teaching, outdoor teaching, practical, field teaching; field visits, local surveys, data collection, systematization, exhibition, introduction, learning games, etc.
- Organize, guide, and facilitate students to explore, exploit, and acquire knowledge from Geography teaching tools such as: maps, atlases, photographs, models, observational instruments, measuring tools, materials, documents, etc. Encourage, create conditions, and build a favorable learning environment for students to exploit information from the Internet to serve learning; train students in processing and presenting geographical information using information and communication technology.
- Increase self-made teaching equipment with the application of information and communication technology (create learning websites, build systems of lessons, exercises, practices, tests using common and appropriate software, create video clips introducing geographical objects and phenomena, etc.).
