According to Subsection 2 of Section 3 of the general education curriculum for the literature subject issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the teaching objectives for the Vietnamese Language in Grade 2 are as follows:

- Help students develop and foster key qualities with specific expressions: love for nature, family, and homeland; awareness of origins; an appreciation for beauty, goodness, and healthy emotions; enthusiasm for learning and labor; honesty and straightforwardness in study and life; awareness of responsibilities towards oneself, family, society, and the surrounding environment.

- Help students initially develop general competencies and enhance language proficiency in all basic skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening at a fundamental level: read accurately and fluently; understand the main content and information of the text; relate and compare beyond the text; write with correct spelling and grammar; compose several sentences, paragraphs, and short essays (mainly narrative and descriptive essays); speak clearly; comprehend speakers’ opinions.

Develop literature proficiency with requirements to distinguish poetry from stories and understand how to read poetry and stories; recognize the beauty of literary language; possess imagination, understand, and feel moved by the beauty and goodness in people and the world expressed in literary texts.

What are the specific competency requirements for teaching the Vietnamese Language in Grade 2 in Vietnam?

Based on Item 2.1 of Subsection 2 of Section 4 of the general education curriculum for the literature subject issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the specific competency requirements for teaching the Vietnamese Language in Grade 2 are as follows:

* Language Proficiency

- Read texts accurately, fluently, and expressively; comprehend the main content of the text, primarily explicit content; begin to understand implicit content such as the theme and lessons derived from the text.

- Reading requirements include technical reading and comprehension skills, focusing on both reading accurately at an appropriate speed and understanding the simple content of the text.

- Write with correct spelling, vocabulary, and grammar; compose several sentences and short paragraphs.

- Write texts recounting stories read, events witnessed or participated in, and stories imagined by students; describe familiar objects and phenomena; introduce objects and activities close to students' lives.

Write paragraphs expressing students' feelings and thoughts upon reading a story or poem, when witnessing an event that evokes emotions; present opinions on simple issues in study and life; write various types of texts such as self-descriptions, messages, invitations, schedules, applications, etc.; initially understand the writing process; ensure the text has three parts (introduction, body, conclusion).

- Clearly present ideas and emotions; initially use appropriate gestures when speaking; recount stories read or heard clearly; share and exchange feelings, attitudes, and thoughts on discussed issues; explain an object or simple process.

- Listen and understand with an appropriate attitude and grasp the main content; recognize the speaker's emotions; know how to respond to what was heard.

* Literature Proficiency

- Distinguish between story texts and poems (prose and verse); recognize the content of the text and the writer's attitudes and feelings; begin to understand the effects of some formal elements of literary texts (language, characters, plot, rhyme, comparison, personification). Know how to relate, imagine, and express literary ideas in writing and speaking.

- Recognize who or what the text is about; identify characters in stories and rhymes in poetry; distinguish between stories and poems.
