- General education aims to comprehensively develop learners in terms of ethics, intellect, physical fitness, aesthetics, basic skills, personal capacity, dynamism, and creativity; to form the personality of socialist Vietnamese people and citizens' responsibilities; to prepare learners for continued higher education, vocational education, or participation in labor, construction, and national defense.
- Primary education aims to establish the initial foundation for the development of students' ethics, intellect, physical fitness, aesthetics, and capacities, preparing them for further learning in secondary education.
- Lower secondary education aims to consolidate and develop the results of primary education; ensure students have a foundational general education, minimum necessary technical understanding, and vocational orientation to continue to upper secondary education or vocational education programs.
- Upper secondary education aims to equip students with civic knowledge; ensure students consolidate and develop the results of lower secondary education, complete general education, and have general technical and vocational knowledge; provide conditions to develop personal capacities for choosing development paths, continuing higher education, vocational education, or participating in labor, construction, and national defense.

What are the requirements for general education content and methods in Vietnam?
Based on Article 30 of the Education Law 2019, the requirements for general education content and methods are as follows:
- General education content must ensure generality, basic knowledge, comprehensiveness, vocational orientation, and systematic organization; align with real-life, appropriate to students' age psychology, and meet educational objectives at each level.
- The requirements for general education content at each educational level are specified as follows:
+ Primary education must ensure a comprehensive foundation for the physical, emotional, and social skills development of students; basic, necessary understanding of nature, society, and human beings; social ethical awareness; basic skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and arithmetic; habits of physical training, hygiene maintenance; initial understanding of singing, dancing, music, and fine arts;
+ Lower secondary education consolidates and develops the primary education content, ensures basic general understanding of Vietnamese language, mathematics, and national history; other knowledge in social sciences, natural sciences, law, informatics, foreign languages; minimum necessary technical understanding and vocational orientation;
+ Upper secondary education consolidates and develops lower secondary education content, completes general education; ensures comprehensive and vocational-oriented general knowledge; includes advanced content in certain subjects to develop capacities and meet students’ aspirations.
- General education methods promote the active, voluntary, proactive, and creative nature of students suited to each subject, class, and the characteristics of the student body; foster self-study methods, learning interest, cooperation skills, independent thinking ability; develop comprehensive qualities and capacities of learners; enhance the application of information and communication technology in the educational process.
