What are the characteristics of the Music subject in the general education program in vietnam?
Pursuant to Section 1 of the Music Curriculum in the general education program issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the characteristics of the Music subject in the general education program are as follows:
Music is an art form that uses sound to express human emotions, attitudes, awareness, and thoughts. Music is an integral part of cultures, closely connected and deeply influencing social life. Music enriches the spiritual values of humanity and helps people explore the world, contributing to raising the quality of life.
In schools, music education provides opportunities for students to experience and develop their musical skills—an expression of aesthetic capability through the following components: music performance, music appreciation, and music creation; contributing to discovering and nurturing students with musical talents.
Moreover, through the songs, musical activities, and the pedagogical methods of educators, music education contributes to developing students' qualities of patriotism, kindness, diligence, honesty, responsibility, along with skills of autonomy, self-study, communication, cooperation, problem-solving, and creativity to become well-rounded citizens in both character and physical and mental harmony.
In the general education program, the content of the Music subject is divided into two phases.
Fundamental education phase: Music is a compulsory subject from Grade 1 to Grade 9, including basic knowledge and skills in singing, musical instruments, music listening, music reading, music theory, and music appreciation.
The music education program helps students to experience, explore, and express themselves through musical activities to develop aesthetic capability, recognize the diversity of the musical world, and the relationship between music with culture, history, and other art forms; simultaneously fostering the consciousness to protect and disseminate traditional musical values.
Career-oriented education phase: Music is an elective subject according to students' aspirations and career orientations. The subject content includes expanded and advanced knowledge and skills in singing, musical instruments, music listening, music reading, music theory, and music appreciation.
Students with interests, talents, or career orientations related to music can also choose additional study modules. The content of music education in this phase helps students continue to develop practical skills, expand their understanding of music in relation to cultural, historical, and social factors, apply knowledge to life, meet personal interests, and access music-related careers.
