Based on Article 2 Decision 31/2008/QD-BGDDT (amended and supplemented by Clause 2, Article 1 Circular 27/2012/TT-BGDDT), the purposes of the training are as follows:

Purpose of the training

Equip the training subjects with a system of knowledge and practical teaching skills to achieve the standard level of teachers.

Thus, the purpose of pedagogical training is to equip the training subjects with a system of knowledge and practical teaching skills to achieve the standard level of teachers.

Article 72 Education Law 2019 stipulates the standard level of teacher training as follows:

- Have a college degree in pedagogy or higher for preschool teachers;

- Have a bachelor's degree in a teacher training field or higher for primary, middle, and high school teachers.

In case a subject lacks teachers with a bachelor's degree in a teacher training field, a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and a certificate of pedagogical training is required;

- Have a master's degree for those teaching at the university level; have a doctorate for those teaching and supervising master theses and doctoral dissertations;

- The standard level of teacher training in vocational education institutions follows the regulations of the Vocational Education Law.

Who is eligible to register for lower and upper secondary school pedagogical training in Vietnam?

Based on Section 2 of the Program and the implementation of pedagogical training for those with a bachelor's degree in a relevant field who wish to become lower and upper secondary school teachers issued together with Circular 12/2021/TT-BGDDT, the applicable subjects are as follows:

Applicable subjects

  1. Individuals with a bachelor's degree in a relevant field of one of the secondary or high school subjects who wish to become secondary/high school teachers.
  1. Organizations and individuals related to the need for training and issuing pedagogical certificates.

Thus, the following subjects are eligible to register for lower and upper secondary school pedagogical training:

- Individuals with a bachelor's degree in a relevant field of one of the secondary or high school subjects who wish to become secondary/high school teachers.

- Organizations and individuals related to the need for training and issuing pedagogical certificates.

What are the objectives of lower and upper secondary school pedagogical training in Vietnam?

Based on Section 2 of the Program and the implementation of pedagogical training for those with a bachelor's degree in a relevant field who wish to become lower and upper secondary school teachers issued together with Circular 12/2021/TT-BGDDT, the objectives of lower and upper secondary school pedagogical training are as follows:

- Regarding teacher's quality:

+ Respect and trust in the learning ability and positive changes of students; ready to support students in learning;

+ Committed to nurturing and promoting the potential of each student, ready to advise students on school psychology, active learning methods, and career choice and development;

+ Love the profession, dedicated to the job; believe in and be proud of the teaching profession; aware of the necessity of lifelong self-study and self-research for teachers.

- Regarding education capability:

+ Implement educational tasks that meet the requirements of secondary schools; conduct class guidance; organize experiential and vocational activities for students;

+ Know how to cooperate with colleagues, parents, and the community in educating students' ethics and lifestyle.

- Regarding teaching capability:

+ Apply specialized scientific knowledge to teach lower and upper secondary school curriculum contents;

+ Develop a teaching plan for lower and upper secondary school subjects that meets general education curriculum requirements;

+ Develop lesson plans suitable for the characteristics of the subject, the specific features of lower and upper secondary school students, and the educational environment; organize teaching activities that meet lower and upper secondary school course requirements;

+ Evaluate the learning process and results of students in accordance with lower and upper secondary school course requirements;

+ Build and manage teaching records; apply information technology (IT) in teaching and student management.

- Regarding student development orientation capability: Understand the educational subjects; have the ability to provide educational counseling and support student personal development.

- Regarding social activity capability: Strictly comply with regulations on cultural conduct and safe, healthy, and friendly schools; prevent school violence; participate effectively in community activities associated with education; guide students to participate in community activities linked with education.

- Regarding professional development capability:

+ Accurately perceive professional development; effectively participate in professional activities based on lesson study;

+ Develop an outline of applied pedagogical research to solve specific educational issues; develop a personal professional development plan.
