Based on Clause 1, Article 3 of the Regulations on national excellent student examinations issued together with Circular 17/2023/TT-BGDDT, the organization of national excellent student exams is regulated as follows:

Organization of national excellent student exams

1. Annually, the Ministry of Education and Training organizes two national excellent student exams, including: the national high school excellent student selection examination (abbreviated as the national excellent student exam) and the national high school student selection examination for national teams to compete in international and regional Olympic competitions (abbreviated as the Olympic team selection exam).

2. Each Department of Education and Training, each university, non-university college with high schools offering intensive programs is considered a competing unit; The Viet Bac High School for Ethnic Minorities is registered as a competing unit.

The Olympic team is understood as the selection of excellent students to be chosen for the Olympic team and compete in international and regional Olympic contests.

Annually, the Ministry of Education and Training organizes two national excellent student exams, including: the national high school excellent student selection examination (abbreviated as the national excellent student exam) and the national high school student selection examination for national teams to compete in international and regional Olympic competitions (abbreviated as the Olympic team selection exam).

According to Article 4 of the Regulations on national excellent student examinations issued together with Circular 17/2023/TT-BGDDT, Olympic team students are selected as follows:

Candidates

1. For the national excellent student selection exam:

a) Students currently studying at high schools, with conduct (or behavior) ratings and academic performance (or academic capacity) from 'good' or above, based on the results from the semester (or school year) immediately preceding the exam and selected into the competition team of their respective unit;

b) Each candidate is only allowed to participate in one subject per school year.

2. For the Olympic team selection exam:

High school students who fall into one of the following categories:

a) Selected by the Ministry of Education and Training from the students who have won awards in the national excellent student selection exam of the same school year according to the principle of descending scores, ensuring the number of students selected for each subject does not exceed eight (08) times the number of students needed for the national team to compete in that particular international Olympics;

b) Not participating in the national excellent student exam of the same school year but have already been members of the national team for regional or international Olympiads in the preceding school year.

Thus, according to the above regulations, Olympic team students are selected from high school students who fall into the following categories:

[1] Selected by the Ministry of Education and Training from the students who have won awards in the national excellent student selection exam of the same school year according to the principle of descending scores, ensuring the number of students selected for each subject does not exceed eight (08) times the number of students needed for the national team to compete in that particular international Olympics;

[2] Not participating in the national excellent student exam of the same school year but have already been members of the national team for regional or international Olympiads in the preceding school year.

What are regulations on subjects for the Olympic team selection in Vietnam?

Based on Article 5 of the Regulations on national excellent student examinations issued together with Circular 17/2023/TT-BGDDT, the examination subjects, content, format, and duration are as follows:

* Examination subjects:

- For the Olympic team selection exam, examinations will be held in the subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Informatics.

* Examination content:

- For the Olympic team selection exam, the content will approach international and regional Olympic standards.

* Examination format and duration:

- Olympic team selection exam: Each subject will be tested over two sessions; for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, there will be an additional practical session; the duration for the Informatics exam is 300 minutes per test, Mathematics is 270 minutes per test, and the other subjects are 240 minutes per test.

- The duration for the practical test session for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology is 180 minutes.

Furthermore, issues such as the exam schedule and examination venue will comply with the regulations in Article 6 of the Regulations on national excellent student examinations issued together with Circular 17/2023/TT-BGDDT, as follows:

- Examination schedule according to the organizational guidelines. The schedule for reserve examination papers (if any) will be announced by the Ministry of Education and Training immediately after the decision to use reserve papers is made.

- Examination venue:
